there should be doubt.. hog's a different beast. Even its hair is thick and tough, and it has a large layer of fat. Deer is lean, and there's not a lot between it's lungs and the outside world.I have killed deer with my mini-14 and 65gr. gameking handloads so there is no doubt in my mind it will kill a hog.
that depends on the hog, your ammunition, and on how good a shot you are. I have not used my Mini on hogs, but I have killed quite a few with an AR.Do you think a mini-14 ranch have enough stoping power to kill a hog at a 150 yrds ?
This, and with the possible exception of the huge razorbacks or the big Russian hogs. Wild pigs are pretty easy to kill. My stepsons still hunt them at night with dogs and a knife. In over 100 hogs I have killed I only had one go on the attack and try and put the hurt on me and it was wounded, about a 300 pounder and a load of triple ought buck at 10 or 12 feet dropped him dead.I have killed and my wife have killed over 30+ hogs with a .223 rem. Generally we are at 100 yards or less, however the .223 will kill a hog. They aren't as bullet proof as people make them to be on the net.
In my opinion, if you can hit a 4" pie plate at 100 yards, you'll kill any hog you'll come up to within that range.
yeah, but even big deer don't have the "shield" or crazy thick skulls like a medium to large male pig has. http://www.biggamehunt.net/tips/what-about-shieldI have killed deer with my mini-14 and 65gr. gameking handloads so there is no doubt in my mind it will kill a hog.
Funny story, kind of similar. Years ago one of my buddies and I decided spur of the moment to go down to the Clear Creek area near the Hernandez Reservoir to do some pig hunting. We had hunted this area before and new of a good camp site, we got there about 11 at night and got the camp set up.I also had one way back when I still lived in Cali attack a campsite.
Like most have said Yes a 223 will kill a hog but I like something bigger at 150 yards but a good bullet and a head shot will drop one in its track. These guys shooting from the chopper don't seem to have any problem but they are not shooting 150 yards. Wrong picture sorry. I messed up Here is the link
