I give up on web gear-heavy pack combos. All seem to lack the hip belt weight bearing ability of a good backpack which, then, will cause loss of being able to wear web gear under it with a we belt. I am looking at the gregory denali (6000 cu in) and forget the readily accessible equipment on the web gear and carry the web gear in the top of the pack. Folks I give up. I hate to carry beaucoup euipment with all the weight on my shoulders vis a vis the regular ruck.

I'm desinging a pack, LBV and Ruck combo that caters to the needs of like minded individuals. There is military stuff and mountaineering stuff, but there is no survivalist stuff, always a compromise comfort(backpacking) or durability(military)

What I'm thinking is a ruck with an integral frame that rests on your hips. The LBV is your straps for either the heavy ruck or the lighter pack.

The theory being that you haul all this stuff in in the ruck and then once you set up camp, why carry the whole thing, just the pack that has a day or three worth of supplies. The thing is the pack is to be completely modular. Similar to the MOLLE system of pockets, compatible if possible. With a space in the LBV for a hydration system. So your most important gear that may need to be accessible can be on the LBV and your other stuff can be in the pack or ruck.

What do you think, and what would you like to see in a pack.

Not much suggestions. I would like to see a way to carry a sidearm while wearing the big thick waist belt of a backpack and still be able to drop the pack in 10 seconds or less and still have your webgear on along with the pistol maybe mounted across your chest so either hand could get at it and you could still mount a rifle to your shoulder. It would be nice to have one pair of web harness with a nice waist belt to support the pack and still have your essentials mounted on the waist belt canteen and ammo pouches.

That's why I want the LBV to be the pack straps, that will allow you to unhook the pack while keeping your web belt and anything on the front of the vest on. As well as the hydration system that's attached to the back. The frame is attached to the pack, not the straps.

Roger. I like the becker packs a lot, but they have no suitable waits belt that supports the weight of the pack. Their belt simply holds it in close to your back. I have been carrying the medium becker turkey hunting. Of course I do not have web bear on under the pack.

Why not get a drop leg holster and attach it to a riggers belt. You can get a belt to fit standard BDU type loops and it will easily support your holster and large size auto pistol and xtra ammo and knife on other side. This way you can drop your pack and still have your sidearm:2guns:

Hello everyone.

I've got a couple of ideas on this. I'm in the Army and I recently returned from Iraq.

For me for day to day use, I can do an awful lot with quite a bit of stuff fixed to a regular old pistol belt. I used a VERY good thigh holster from an outfit called High Speed Gear, Inc., a canteen, a knife pouch, gerber multitool, and a magazine pouch setup similar to the thigh holster. All the weight rode on my hips, which didn't bother me too much, but might not be good for some. I don't think the "Y" or "H" harness is much use unless you are carrying a butt pack. I could carry my ruck and everything was out of the way. I strongly dislike the LBV, you can't breathe too well in it, you sweat a lot, the strings and straps and flaps are always getting in my way, if you have to go prone with it on you end up laying on your spare magazines, it's really just a nuisance to me. I guess it all depends on what you plan to carry, too, but that's what worked for me.
