OK, I asked about a reamer size but I suppose nobody knows.

Does anybody have a ranch rifle front pin laying around they could measure with a mic? I dont have mine.

This is what I got for a 582 Mini 30.

0.120 inch

or

3.05 mm

To add: The above measurement was taken using a mic. I have an instructions sheet for installing a muzzle brake that refers to it as 1/8" roll pin.

+1 At US hardware stores you should be looking for a 1/8" roll pin.
many, many thanks for the info.

I did go to the hardware store and got a 1/8 inch roll pin. I thought the holes in the meprosight looked somewhat small, but I drove it in anyway. Well when I got the roll pin through, the sight would cant back and forth. The roll pin is compressed undersized in the sight, allowing slack with the factory notch in the barrel. I dont know what I was thinking, I should have known better.

Apparently the sight is made with the holes undersized so that it can be reamed to an exact fit, which is good.

Seeing where I am eventually gonna have the barrel cut down by great west, I think I am gonna go ahead with the 1/8 reamer, and match the barrel and sight together. However, I may go ahead and call ruger just to see if they will give me a spec.

If you are referring to the sight "canting back and forth" along the long axis of the barrel, that's pretty normal for the slip-on type of sight. In order to defeat that teeter tauter motion, you would need a tighter fit (pressure fit) which would cause problems for some novice installers. You can drill and tap a hole for a set screw, on the bottom side of the sight, or do as I did, and add a brass shim to the back/bottom side of the sight.
