I have a with a S.S R.R the firing pin is not hitting the primer.
It has 200-300 though it then.I T though I had a quib load
and pushed my cleaning jig into the firing pin hole(dumb) but
the pin seems fine. I think a pice of brass is in the bolt. How do
you take the bolt apart? The other thing is the unfired round
is very hard to get out. I really don't see want is wrong.
Thank for any ideas.

Hey johnsopi. It sounds like the rounds are not seating all the way. Switch ammo.

Are you shooting reloads? I had some reloads do the exact same thing. They were once fired LC brass, full sizing didn't cut it. Had to use a Small base die to get the case size down so they fit the chamber better.

Let me see if I read this wrong/right.
You thought you had a misfire, or a dud. You pushed a cleaning jig (or jag?) through and hit the firing pin hole? But the round is stuck in the chamber and you can't remove it? With a stuck round how did you manage to get a cleaning jig through the bore and hit the boltface? Did you get the bolt open? And tear off part of the rim of the case?

I need a bit more details-you have me confused a bit.

The problem seemed to start after pushing the cleaning jig into
the firing pin hole. This is allso the1st time I've used SA ammo in
this gun.
After this I tried stooting again this is when the F.P did not hit
the primer and it was hard to get the the unfired round out. Still
using SA ammo.Tried this 10 times or so over 2 trips to the range.
As chance would have it still using SA ammo.
So to sum it up after pushing the jig into the hole. The firing pin would not hit the primer. Every thing looks good on the bolt and pin. This is allso the 1st time using theSA ammo in the mini. Shoots great in my AR. Could it be as simble as the ammo?
Or could it be a piece of brass in the bolt. I will wait and try
a differant ammo before taking the bolt to pieces unless it is a
easy thing to do. The Ruger manual does not tell how to take it to peices.

Thanks Paul I

john---It sounds to me like you may have peened the firing pin hole. It doesn't take much to close the hole down to where the firing pin won't protrude enough to hit the primer. You might contact Ruger & see what they say. I imagine they'll tell you to send in the whole rifle. From what I understand firing pin holes are reamed to their final diameter. I don't know if this is how Ruger does it or not.

Good luck

Calling ruger is a good idea. The firing pin moves freely.I think I might be able to get to the range soon I'll try some lake city next time. How do you take the firing pin out or is this a big pain.SA ammo does means South Africanand is berdan primed.

Take the bolt out of the receiver. Push on the back of the firing pin. If it sticks out of the firing pin hole in the bolt face, the firing pin is fine and moves freely.

If the firing pin moves freely, you probably have some bad ammo. Cajungeo may be right, the cases may not be sized properly. The rifle is designed so that if the bolt does not go completely into battery, it will not fire.

Before you send it Ruger, I'd check with a local Gunsmith. He can probably fix it for not much more than the cost of shipping.

If nothing else, send it to me. I can fix it.

Thanks,
Lee

This situation just happened to my 195 series stainless ranch mini. Close inspection after dissasembling the bolt showed the tip had busted off the end of the firing pin. Replacement with a new pin corrected the problem. It appears if you read through this forum that broken firing pins and ejecters are common on minis especially the stainless ones as it is apparently difficult to control the hardness of stainless steel during manufacture. Its also the reason that after owning four mini-14s that its time to consider a new type of rifle to carry in the field! Thanks Dieseldog!
