Some ranges around here do not allow FMJ bullets but are fine with HP.
Would filling off the tips be suitable? If so, how would I go about that? How much to file off, what is the best method, would the rifle feed reliably?
Seems like a strange rule to me. I wouldn't think you could file down FMJ very well. You'd have to get it perfectly flat or the bullet would get real unstable I'd think.
Now I have a friend that did this on commercial ammo, which had the bullet bottom jacked. He made chisel shaped noses, blunt noses, drilled a hole in the tip to simulate a hollow point, he said they all grouped the same, no dif. course he was only shooting at 100 yds or so. Long range may have been a different story. He said you only need to flatten the tip a little to get the bullet to expand on impact.
