While laying out my Mini-30 receiver with scope options I found the FACTORY mounts cast in to the receiver were off center enough to see w/o measuring (The front one seems ok the back one was way off center !!!) I bore scoped it and sure enough it was off 2-1/2 feet at 60 yards !!! Has anyone else seen these flaws in their receivers ???
This fact begs the next question how to mount a scope ??? A custom weaver rail could be drilled and tapped on top off those useless "LUMPS" !!!
Then there is the M1A type mount that slides into the "bolt lock cover plate" recess on the left side of the receiver... The one with the single knob take down... Anybody have any experiance with that mount? Strong enough??? Re-zero's OK ??? HELP !!!

You shouldn't have to cobble it up. I'd send Ruger a letter explaining the problem and your dissapointment. Ask them if they'd be willing to replace the rifle, I'd bet they will. If not you'll have to 're-engineer' it and that's a potential liability problem for them since it's their shoddy workmanship that caused you to do such.

you can get the mount your talking about off of www.gunacessories.com. I got it, and so far so good. I only use it with a redot scope though. luckily my ring mounts are lined up right so the hi-power scope fits right on, hehe. the only complaint I would have is that the coverplate they give you is not crimped and so when you're putting the thing back together (after cleaning, etc.) it tends to slip out at the wrong time - you have to keep your eye on it. overall that's a minor problem though. it seems to tighten up on it's own after usage and stays put.
