I am noticing that every third or 4th round. The casing does not get ejected. Is it my magazine or extractor. It is very nerve racking being that I paid so much for this rifle. I have only put 80 rounds through this thing. SO it's freakin new!!!! I appreciate any help.

I have a Springfield Loaded. I use the stock magazine. I used portuguese and chilean surplus. I also noticed with the portuguese that it may have thin casings because some got stuck in the chamber and I had to knock out the casing with a cleaning rod. Anyone else experience this?

M1ARookie,

I've had very similiar problems in the past with the Portuguese ammo. I bought a battle pack of it & the first 2 boxes of it shot fine, but then the next 2 were complete junk - either the cases wouldn't eject or else the next round wouldn't be chambered by the action. Then I took some of it & tried it in my old Winchester Model 100 semi-auto hunting rifle...........they would not even fire in that gun - no ignition at all. I'm thinking that I got ammo with some bad primers ............ you may have the same going for you.

Try shooting some other kind of ammo (perferrably not NATO surplus) to verify that the ammo is the problem. Any standard .308 factory ammo will do - just not any hot loads like Hornady's Light Magnums. If the gun cycles fine with this other ammo, then you know the surplus ammo is the problem.

If you still have problems, then the next step would be for you to clean the gas cylinder out. Typically, 80rds isn't enough to gum up the cylinder...................but on a new gun anything is possible.

I also have a SA Loaded Rifle. I had the same problem with Venz. and Argent. ammo. Cavim Ammo had the Case rim ripped off. I pulled the bullets and put WW748 into the case and reseated the bullet. They worked perfect. The powder burn rate is apparently wrong for an M1A That is in the ammo. Just for your info.

Tried about 4 different brands/manufacturers of surplus .308 ammo, and the best so far with zip, "O", none malfunctions is the IMI Israeli surplus. I picked some up at a gun show last summer before putting the "14" together, and it is fine stuff. Also had various problems with Portugese,so got rid of it. Just my nickels worth.:2guns: BILL By the way, just got several mags from Cole Distributing-they had an ad in Jan. 1 Shotgun News with M14 mags on special, and they functioned flawlessly, used surplus.

Hey there King. Something I just had a thought on-since they aren'y expensive, you could try changing out the extractor and spring to see if this makes any difference in your rifle. Just a thought.:2guns: BILL

Sorry,I should have addressed M1A Rookie NOT KING. Must of had a temporary brain fart there; anyway Rookie, this might be a cheap fix for your problem if you don't believe ammo is the cause.:2guns: BILL

Carry-45, I've had a few brain farts myself, that's ok. I did change the springs in my M1a with Wolf made springs from WWW.Brownell's.Com. That have a spring pack for the M1a with all springs. Recoil, Extractor, Hammer. They helped the functioning of my M1a. I also added a recoil buffer. (Who ever invented this little piece of plastic made a mint). Wolf also makes 5% extra power mag springs. I filled my mags with these and have had 0 malfuntions. If you can't buy the mag springs from brownells you can order them directly from wolf. Good luck and good shooting.

:D I've been shooting South African, (1800rounds thus far) and am really happy with it. I have had one failure to feed, a dented case. Getting good results, inch and a half groups at 100 yards, benched. My off hand results are two to three inches depending on how long I've been at it that day. Good stuuf, really.

Four years ago I bought two cases of the Port ammo that was loose packed. I quit shooting it in my semi-autos. The cases were sticking in the chambers and the extractors were tearing off the rims. This ammo shoots fine in my bolt guns. I have a couple of cases of the Port ammo in battle packs, but I haven't tried any of it yet.
