I assume you're taking about front sights? I have the eagle hider/sight. It's a decent sight, way better than the factory 'fat boy' looking thing. However I do wish I had the choate version instead, I prefer the post w. wings sight picture for some reason.

Yes, I mean the Front sight/ Flash hider combo. I have a Choate too, the problem I find with it is when I swing up fast I sometimes acquire one of the wings instead of the sight and it takes me a second to get the front sight. I've thought of changing to the Eagle for the 'ring-on-ring' effect and am looking for general input from guys that have both.

i like the eagle cuz of that ring around the sight. fits nicely inside the peep circle when i'm sighting properly. definately ring-on-ring. i screwed a round headed screw into my syn stock for a kisser button to help me get close to the same sight picture when i swing it up quick.

I just ordered the eagle style site FS. I liked the way the site looked to. However I am curious as to wether this will help with the harmonic effect. I had the impression hanging anything out there would help some. I wish I coulda gotten that site on a break though.

Zydeco,

I put stainless Eagle flash hider on Mini-14 and it cut my avg. group size from 4" to less than 2". I didn't weigh it before installing it, but I'd guess it goes about 6 oz. The rifle is scoped, but I checked the "ring on ring" sight picture and liked it. It looks good too. I like the slab sided look. I prefer the flash hider instead of a muzzle brake for noise reasons. I don't want to have to wear ear plugs or muffs when I hunt with it, and the compensators are a bit too loud.

One warning. The one I have went on VERY tight. There's definitely no rattle and it's not gonna fall off any time soon. I had to use a soft faced hammer to tap (OK, pound) it on. I don't feel this is a bad thing necessarily, cuz a *slight* constriction at the muzzle can be good for accuracy. But, too much could be a problem for obvious reasons. Go slow if it is tight and especially as you near lining up the pin slot with the hole in the FH. It you go past it, you'll have to tap on the muzzle and risk damaging the crown (I did this and had to carefully tap on the end of the barrel with a softwood dowel to get the hole to line up. Luckily, I did no noticeable damage and it shoots well).
I'm pleased with the results.

wow, my eagle fh was loose on my 183 std. actually the inside diameter of the fh was larger than the diameter of my barrel. but i had to go in and file off the ends of the screws that hold the ghost sight to the fh to get it on.

now i'll have to go out and shoot without it to see if my groups widen.

been so obsessed with getting the groups tighter, i haven't used the iron sights much lately.

Dug up this old thread on a search

Thinking of getting the eagle. The Brownell's Catalog calls them a compensator sight combination but it sure looked like a flash suppressor to me! heh heh

I am thinking of getting out the hack saw (oh my!) cutting my barrel back to about 17", crowning it with one of those stones, (by hand real slow) and then putting on the eagle. How do you get it pinned on straight? Hang a plumb bob string in front of it in a vice and do it by eye? do you have to drill a hole for the pin? arggggggg

Can you help a brother out....... heh heh heh

I believe a couple members did a similar mod their self. I would line it up to center some how, and drill thru the compensator hole to use as a guide. I wonder what a gunsmith would charge for drilling 1 hole? You got to watch their min charge.

I cut and pasted most of this from a different post I had written ... this is how I did it.

Cut mine down to 16 1/4 ... Marked it using a plummers pipe cutter, cut it with a hack saw, squared it with a file, crowned it using a conical grinding burr in a air grinder. Took all of 45 minutes to do once I got the courage up to actually begin cutting.

Groups went from just over 2.5 inches at 50 yrds to about a half inch

put the gun in a vise, I used a small bullet level and leveled the gun off of the ranch model's scope mount base, I used a steel ruler across them. my front sight is eagle type flash surpressor with h&k style ring & post mounted with a set screw. the ring & post are set screwed to a machined flat on top of the supressor, level the flash hider with the level across the flat, tighten the set screw on the supressor, screw the ring & post back on and re-zero.

drilling the hole is easy, though. Use the hole in the site or muzzle brake as a guide (tighten the set screw so it won't move) and drill thes same size hole as was in it.
