I just wanted to enlighten the world about my wonderful experience with Double Star. I recently aquired a Double Star Lower and called Double star for one of thier Expedition Kits. I thought it would be difficult to build but once I got the parts in front of me it all seemed to come back if you know what I mean. This weapon is AWSOME!!! I will probably get the CAR kit later on. The 20" Expedition is fantastic. It was allready head spaced and test fired. All I had to do was build up the Lower. Off of a bag I can touch five holes together at 100yds with Winchester white box from wally's. And thats with out any tinkering for accuracy. I plan to free float the hand guard and work up some loads for accuracy. I am a very happy camper with J&T distribution and Double Star Corperation. They have a first rate staff, First rate customer service and a first rate AR. Cant wait to have the opportunity to do business with them again!!!:ar15:

Yes, they are mil spec. They have been in the ar biz for a long time selling accessories and parts as J&T. They do a lot of business with government agencies and police departments. They just recently got into the complete gun business. If you havent heard of them, you will. The quality if outstanding and the service is awsome. I built one up useing the Expedition kit. Absolutly none of the problems that Ive read about others who built their own. All forged, all milspec. Fine work.

I picked up one of their complete A2 lowers for my colt 5.45 X 39 upper the other day. No problems as of yet and all functions well except it is too tight for my G.I. 20 rounder. The 30 rounders fit real well though. The 20 fits in my centry lower that I put together real well. Don't know the difference as of yet but will find out why the difference. The Double Star is quality work. If I pick up another upper then I probably would buy another Double Star lower plus they are within 30 miles of me.

Hey man we are nieghbors.

I have had no problems with mags. I did pick up a Colt 20 rd in Louisville the other day and It fits and functions very well. I met a guy at the range in Salt Lick who built up a kit useing I Doublestar lower. He said that the reason he went with the Doublestar is that it would accept most aftermarket mags. I would call the folks at J&T, maybe they can figure out whats going on.

Good shootin neighbor!

I checked the width of the mag well on both and there is a .025' difference in them. I only have the one 20 rounder and I suspect that it is swelling just a little when fully loaded. I am going to try some of my buddies 20 rounders to see if they work. I like the double star lower better than the century one because the double start is made a bit heavier.

The range at Salt Lick is the one as you go to the camp ground on that side of the lake. right? I haven't been there for many a year. Sad that I don't because it is less than an hour from the house. I usually go to one of my farms to shoot or sight in. I will say this for the 5.45 X 39 that I have and that is I really like it. I am going to try and get a 10 rounder to use it on groend hogs and coyotes. Want to see the results verses my 5.56 Ar.

Swordslinger do you live in Bath Co. or just in the area? If you live in Bath Co. then you probably know some of my family! I am in Nicholas Co.

Yes the Range is where your thinking. I live in Clark county, but Im buying a place in Menifee. Its a lot closer to the range, but I will probably built one on my property after I get moved. It is really in the boonies. If you think the problem is in the lower, Ill bet money that they will make it right, but the mag swelling sounds like it might be the problem.

I went to the gun show this weekend and did some trading with the guys at double star. the heavy barrel stainless uppers were so nice i had to get one . we traded a new bushmaster pre-ban upper for their fluted heavy stainless 24' in.flat top model with free float hand guard ..the guy at doubble star knows his stuff and came through the barrage of questions i threw at him nicely. I will post pics of the complete rifle when i'm done. I was impressed with their quality of rifles since they use shaw barrels on the stainless heavy barrels i know the quality will be there too. also on a diffrent note they are milspec..crow dont taste bad when you use BBQ sauce........I still am sold on rock rivers but i will be using double star on my heavy barrel stainless builds...good quality.....:D :D :D :Doh yea double star is j&t distributors ....

One Good Cop: I will send you a toothpick to get the feathers out of your teeth. Hah!

I read your first post, and was going to write a long reply to it, but as I read down the page, got to your second post. Ahah! You found out for yourself. Nothing like a little touchy feely with the real thing, huh?

I have a J&T kit built on an Olympic Arms lower. It is the A2 Carbine, 16" bbl. Yes, it is an E.R.Shaw barrel, too, not chrome lined, but that does not matter to me. The lockwork was all top notch, as good as any (and better than some!) parts I have gotten from Armalite, DPMS, Bushmaster, Olympic, and a host of other places over the years. The upper was completely assembled, and every bit as well done as from A, B, C, or D.

OK, guy, if you are a LEO, you'll like this... the most important thing... from the very beginning it has gone bang every time. Not one single failure to fire in about 1000 rounds. NO malfunctions, none, nada, zip, nyet.

Assembled the lower, cleaned the upper, lubed it, and went to the range. Popped in a full USGI 30. Dumped the mag downrange rapidly. Cool, that works! Let cool a few minutes, and repeated. Again, no malfunctions. Break-in over, I proceeded to sight-in.

Now, three SA Battle Packs and a few more mags later, still perfect functioning. I am grouping 2" at 100 yds off the bench, just resting on my elbows, with the A2 iron. Good enough for me.

And these guys are not newcomers to the AR15 business.

I had to use my set of OD furniture on this one.

Have you taken a kid shooting recently? Why not?

Swordslinger-

Do you work for them? I mean, you posted this from Winchester KY, the home of Double Star...

If you work for DoubleStar, just come out and say it! I have a vendor section, I'd happily open up a sectoin for J&T/DS and you guys can answer customer questions inside that section.

Let me know.

I too have been looking around at J&T and RRA .A J&T upper is almost 200 cheeper than a RRA of corse you get the complete bolt with the RRA and Bolts are an option on th JT kit. I sure would like to know how there 24 inch bull barrels compare at the range. If I knew the J&T kit would at least match the RRA kit I would probably buy one.

I read a review on Heavy Barreled AR-15s in gunblast.com the other day and one of the AR-15s tested was the Doublestar 24" super match (the others were DPMS, Armalite, Bushmaster and Rock River). The reveiw said all of the rifles tested shot under 1 MOA with most shooting half of that. It didnt say which rifles actually shot what. I talked to a guy today from Doublestar (dont remeber his name) to get the low down on there rifles. He told me that 1 MOA is their claim but their rifles actually shoot Sub MOA group consistently. From his personal experience he said he has a 24" super match and his shoots .5 MOA consistently. How much of this is him just trying to sell a rifle I dont know. Anyway does anybody out there have one of these rifles and how well does it shoot.
