Special issuue of SGN, had an interesting 3 page article on gun laws. They stated: "The "assault rifle ban" was written by those who hate, and don't understand guns. So it contains many a trap for the unwary." It had 5 paragraphs on the traps for the Ruger 10/22. It pointed that the Ruger 10/22 already has 1 evil feature, and that is the capability to accept hi-cap mags, we are only allowed 1 more. A folding stock has 2 evil features, (1) folding stock, (2) protruding pistol grip. This makes 3 Unless it was assembled before the Sept 13 1994 assualt ban. Even then the "burdon of proof lies with the owner", that this was configured before the ban. This is to say you will be held guilty, unless "you can prove" otherwise by documentation. The penalty for that infraction is 10 years in prison , and a $25,000 fine.

Now I had a pre ban configured 10/22 with a RamLine folder. (I sold it, wish I hadn't as I didn't even know about the ban.), but there is no way I could prove I put the stock on before the ban, as who would keep a receipt for a $19.95 stock? Stupid Laws. The only relief is there dosen't seem to be a consentrated effort to back up this dumb law, yet!

It would appear that with the current political and social atmosphere that we as responsible gun owners should STAY EDUCATED AND INFORMED!!!! All the small attempts made by these anti gun organizations must be responded to very loudly. One day we will all wake up and say "When did they do that ?" When United States citizens start taking responsibility for their own lives and start forcing government to stay out of our lives, then we will thrive as a nation once again. I feel very syrongly about these topics. How long will it be before having a handgun in the home will be a felony. All I can say is vote for government officials that keep our freedoms with us, not in their hands.

Federal definition of a rifle considered to be an assault weapon:

A semiautomatic rifle that has an ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at least 2 of --

(1) A folding or telescoping stock,
(2) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon,
(3) A bayonet mount,
(4) A flash suppressor or threaded barrel designed to accommodate a flash suppressor, and
(5) A grenade launcher

At our club meeting last Tuesday we discussed the legalities of 10/22 mods – the results were almost identical to what cajungeo cited. Speculation is that “Gay” Davis (CA Governor) will be tightening up the requirements soon. He screwed up everything he's touched until now so why not this too.

It is true that we should be careful but did you know there has not been one conviction under the 94 AWB? it just doesn't look good for the cops to bust law abiding citizens. So I wouldn't be too paranoid about it the feds don't want to waste there time with this, but if you are building a real Assault rifle meaning Full Auto that will get you a visit.

i kinda doubt gay dufus is going to be doing anything he is already very unpopular and I don't think he wants to become more unpopular.

Remember before the election his advisors were telling him no new gun control just because people were angry about it, i think the same thing applies now considering they are trying to recall him.

I doubt it will happen but it should be fun too watch, we all know his political career is over.

I to have read the Feb3 2003 article of shot gun news and what conserned me the most was that if I own a pre ban GB folder mini-14 with a folding stock, flash hider, pistil grip and a detachable mag for example .The ATF could consider it a felony unless I have documentation proveing these features where added pre ban. A recite saying mini-14GB could still not be enough if the ATF did'nt define a GB as haveing a flash hider, bayonet lug and detachable mag. This was agood article and we need to let everyone know about it so they know there preban gun maybe a felony unless they can prove it was assembled with the (3evil )features preban.

If you plan on ticking off the ATF you better make sure your preban guns have soild documentation 1st.

I do'nt beleive the ATF would try to push this isue right know but it worries me grately that they could.

One thing I keep reminding myself, where do I use my guns, and what kind of people are watching. I use my guns at the range, and for hunting. I run into people at those places with their guns. They are people just like me. If I saw some one with a flash supressor, and a folder, would I run over, and check serial numbers, and call the ATF? Heck no. So I wouldn't believe, they would do the same to me. If we act responsible, and use our guns for our own business, I don't believe we have as big a problem as the liberals, and antigunners would like for us to belive we have. There are laws in place to catch the irresponsible, and unwarry, and these laws chip away at the 2nd ammend, little by little.

The bottom line is we still need to keep pressure on our polititions, and not let up. It is easy to send an e-mail or letter to your local reps. to voice our opinion, on gun related issues, and the 2nd ammendment, in a reasonable, intelligent manor (Ranting, Raving, Cussing, and Personal attacts, convience no one of anything except we are stupid! It just shows a Red Neck attitude, that liberals will laugh at and pay no attention). I write or e-mail mine at least 2 times a year. I am currently writing a suguestion to the NRA to take some of their due money for a TV special program to shed light on gun issues, maby some reinactments of lives saved because of citizen owned guns in "Cops" format. Show some crime rate data in countrys, states that outlawed guns. etc. The same stuff in the NRA magizines, and articles, but in a visiable format on national TV. The NRA needs to concentrate more on public opinion ( Those Types that would vote a draft dodger in for president, and commander & chief ). I believe it would go a long way in turning some opinions that guns are not evil. Only certain individuals hold that distinction. Evil is man made.

I'm sorry I got carried away, I will get off my soap box, but still intend to procede with the above. ;)

What conserns me is what if at a road block you get stoped and the officer ask do you have any guns ect... when he see the gun will he know it's a preban or will he take it call the ATF with the serial # and a decription . this happened to me about 1995 and I had a SKS with a pistol grip folder extended mag,and a bayonet they gave it back after about a week and I showed them all the recites it was 100% leagle but what if I had no recites would I now be a felon?

Hey 2 gun. I can see how it could drive a person to pernoia. All the more reason to obey the little laws. I travel with my guns in a locked gun case. Unloaded, with the ammo locked in the glove box. I only got pulled over once. I told the officer I had an "Unloaded Hunting" rifle, and pistol "locked" in the back. Would he like to see them. I saw his eyes open a little wider, then he looked back in my camper shell and saw the gun case, and came back up and gave me a speed warning, and added We appreciate being told up front about the guns. Then let me go. The last thing a cop wants to find is a loaded gun in the cab with you and wearing black Ninja clothes. Then you got big trouble :(

BTW I put a copy of this thread into the general discussion forum

It's really too bad that a select few can determine what is good for all of us.

What kills me is that at some point alot of people actually voted for all these guys. Oh well. Not my doing. I'm just one of them foreigners and they won't even let me vote yet. Speakin' of which. I'm ashamed that my homeland is taking the stands that it's taking. Once again I have to be embarrassed about where I was born...

Hey German guy, don't be embarrased about what yours or ours leaders do. We should only be embarrased if we just let them get out of control, with out even telling them that they are wrong, by our letters, phone calls, or votes.
