I know that USA magazines are considered junk by most who frequent this forum, but I bought a handful of USA 10 rounders before I found the forum. Sure enough almost every one of them has the same problem - the last round comes out the the magazine and just sits there losely on top of it. Thus the follower comes up and locks the bolt open. Other than that, they all feed well. In comparing the USA's to the factory Ruger mag, two things are clear. One is the USA follower is not the same - the right side groove is not as deep and the left side does not have a cut out for the feed lip. The second is that the feed lips seem too open. I will experiment with bending the feed lips down a little more and see if that helps. Also, I was thinking of ordering ruger followers and installing them. I found them at Brownells for $2.85 each. But, I can't figure out how to disassemble the darned USA mags. I read the Ruger disassembly instructions, and they don't seem to apply.

Two questions: (1) can someone tell me how to disassemble a USA mag, (2) do you think the follower swap out will work?

Hey Shy guy. It's easy. See the little hole in the bottom plate? Stick a drill bit in it, pull up, and out. It will slide right out. Do not bend the tabs!

You have the right idea. Wrap some masking tape on the duckbill or neednose pliers, and match the lips to your Ruger mag. Many members have swaped out the followers, and some the followers, and springs. It seems to work for them.;)

Hey Cajungeo,

I got the mags apart no problem. The key was to pull up on the base plate while pushing, and to not be afraid to exert a oomph. I'll try playing around with the feed lips. If that doesn't work out, I'll try the Ruger followers. Any how, I will keep you all posted.

shy guy it might help yo bevel the edges of the floor plates on your mags. These are the sides of the floor plate that ride under the tabs on the magazine. It might help in the future for their removel. U.S.A. mags are'nt the best but they can be made to work well.
