defensive rifle

Would either the remington model 7400 or 7600 with a 18.5" barrel in 30-06 with a 10 round magazine make a good reliable defensive rifle? Thank you.

My defense weapons consist of a 45cal semi-auto.a colt 357mag,a 120lb rottweiler.Another thing that we do is take our cell phone into the bedroom with us.All the intruder has to do is remove one phone from hook and your regular phones are dis-abled.
