Well I picked up a stripped lower from American spirit arms this weekend in scottsdale for 119.95+tax. Pretty nice finish I might add. Now for the hard part.

I need advice on which ar-15 kit to buy, since I'm a newbie to the ar-15. 16",20". or 24 inch barrel? Chrome lined barrel/chamber or not? What kind of Buttstock? I am looking for a 1 MOA accuracy @ 100 yards with iron sights therefore the A2 upper is what I have decided on.

I know there is a lot of companies out there that sell kits. I just need some sound advice and recommendations on some of you guys that have put together ar-15 kits. I've set my spending limit to 600.00 max. Oh, I got nothing but time to put this little project together.

Thanks, :usa:

I went back and found my old post about what I did. Here it is....

Ok guys, here is what I did. I am building this one from
the ground up. A complete FN, M4 upper. It has a 16in.
Shaw flat top bbl, heavy match grade, with a tactical
muzz. break. Shaw makes bbls for Colt. And a forged ASA
striped lower. Colt fire control group. All parts and pieces
are mil spec. The folks I'm buying the complete upper
from will test fire it for me before they ship it out at no
extra cost. The total cost to me is $581.50. It should be
in in a few weeks. I am having a retired S.F. smithy put it
together for me. I'll run some rounds threw it and report
back. I know most of you love Bushmaster and I do to.
But I do not have the kind of $ to get another.

To be honest, I'm not real sure. I built it up for my son to play with. The last time I had it out I only had cheap ammo. I was getting 1 1/2in. groups at 50 yards. At this point all my son wants to do is hit shotgun shells at 50 and clay birds at 100. And it will do that. I really do need to see how tight I can get her.

If you haven't picked up the lower parts yet, I suggest DPMS for the basic setup. If you're looking for 2-stage....there are numerous companies making them. Some can be tricky to set up.

As far as barrel length, I have never really seen much difference in performance between a 20" and a 24". I'm not a 16" shooter but some swear by them. I hope I don't open a bag of worms here but there is a difference in .223 and 5.56 chambers. 5.56 is a little longer in the throat. When shooting 5.56 in a .223 chamber the bullet can get logded in the rifling and that's not a good thing. I know Fulton Armory has a "5.56 Match " chamber that will accomodate both safely with great accuracy.

Chrome-lined barrels...the jury is still out on that one. There are pros and cons on the issue. I'd rather have stainless. One of mine is a 7-twist, 26"xtra heavy stainless with a thoated match chamber in a highpower setup that will easily go out to 600 yards will superb accuracy. The upper unit alone was $800. She likes 80 grain JLK's seated at 2.455 OAL. I know, kinda pricey.

Well, the painkillers are setting in so I'm out of here for awhile. I'll look through some info I have and post it later.
