A place to get info on matches across the country is in SHOOTING SPORTS USA, a publication of the NRA. To subscribe, call the SSUSA hotline at (703) 267-1583. It costs $5 per yr. for classified shooters and $10 for non-classified shooters. I know it sounds like a NRA commercial, but it is a good reference for competition shooters.
A bit of clarification on the match distances that I posted previously. The 1000yd match is shot at that distance in the prone positon. The 600yd matches consist of 200yd standing slowfire, 200yd sitting rapid, 300 prone rapid and 600yd prone slowfire stages. The amount of ammunition needed will depend on the way the match is run. You can find that out when you talk to the match director.
