i am having trouble with some of my cheap mags that I have (not all some suprisingly work great)

so what I am going to do is cut the bottom off of a hi quality promag 10rd then make a sleave and cut the top off of a cheap 30rd and braze them together I am probably going to do it in the next couple days so I will keep you posted.

You might want to check into the legality first. I know it's O.K if both the magazines are PRE BAN. I don't think you can do it if one of the mags is a POST BAN like the 10 round Pro Mag. they would consider that manufacturing a Hi Cap feeding device. I could be wrong, but it would be worth checking first.

Actually... my understanding based on what I've read from BATF is that if you create a new mag, even from all pre ban components, it is still an illegal post ban high capacity feeding device. (read: felony) A high cap mag would have had been constructed before 1994 to be legal. Check out the Feb. edition of the Shotgun News. It has a discussion of legality and examples with actual letters from the BATF. Spend $50 bucks and get a PMI pre band. For my money, I'd pay $50 and have zero chance to go to jail any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

I'm still using a preban mag tube just using the top of a Pre ban 10rd.

the problem is I live in CA so I cannot have complete mags shipped to me.

Nother words, yor jes "tweeking" a preban mag. ta work better in yor mini. Yeah keep us posted on your tweeken.

Why don't you use the tops of factory 5 rounders and the bottoms of cheep USA 10 rounders? If you do a real good job of welding you will probably end up with some very reliable 10 rounders.

I could do that but why not just pay the $14 and buy the Pro mag 10rds that work great as is.

if I am going to "tweak" I am going to make something good like a 30rd.

We will see how it works out, kinda a pricey project but should be fun.

I dont think mag capacity is everything......those banana mags are awkward if shooting from prone position or offhand.

davey you can go over to AK.net and a few other boards to the FOR SALE forums and look for a fellow by the name of HiCap. He sells 30RND fal mags,55rnd AK mags, 30rnd. Cetme mags,ect,ect,. He takes 2 pre ban mags and makes these. He does some very nice work also as can be seen in his pictures. He also has a post showing his letter from the BATF giving him the O.K.
