As everyone knows one of the neat things about the AR rifle system is all of the great aftermarket accessory and doodads that can be added on via a picatinny style rail mounting system. Ultimak and other makers are beginning to offer rail sight/scope mount options for our Mini's. However, these deveopment are
1) still somewhat costly
2) not as versatile as I would like to see
Postulation toward a Solution
What if I were to acquire a pice of picatinny rail (there are a number of sources available) and attach is to say the underside of the standard mini ranch synthetic stock using screws. etc... I would then be able to mount all manner of AR 15 accessories to my mini via this rail such as Bipod mounts/housings, lights/lasers, etc... and currently most interesting to me a forward veritical grip.
It seems to me that a forward veritical grip would greatly increase my mini's (with is 16.25" barrel) handling for CQB type applications as well as look really cool.
Questions...
Has anyone done this with their rifle?
Anyone have any thoughts about whether a forward veritical grip/handle would be considered a pistol grip by the BATF?
Thankfully, I do not dwell in the PRK but I do not want to run afoul of federal authorities over playing around with my already perfectly servicable rifle.
