Since I live in California this is the only AK type gun a person can own. It is basically a pump action AK. I bought it about six months ago because I knew I could get lots of stuff for it seeing as how there are more AKs in the world than people. But I have thus far only changed out the stock to a thumbhole stock.

Anyone have any ideas as to what other modifications I could make to it?

Oh and just wanted to say, the gun shoots alright. I wouldn't take it into battle or anything but it's nice to have. A problem I have been having is that sometimes when I pump it the bolt will not fully close and then it won't shoot and I have to pump it again. Not quite sure what is wrong with it.

hatter. Without seeing the rifle and not being familiar with a pump action AK it's hard to say. I'm not sure what type set up it uses to work the bolt carrier. I take it they've replaced the gas piston on the carrier with some type of set up to act as an action bar. When you forward stroke the action make sure you use plenty of snap to it, in one quick brisk move. Do these pump action AK's use a return spring in the reciever like a standard AK? Are they a single stack mag or double stack?

Well on a standard AK the recoil spring assembly holds the dust cover on. At the rear of the dust cover will be a square looking latch, if you push it in it will allow you to lift the dust cover up and access the bolt and carrier. On your pump I'm not sure. There has to be a way to remove the pump rod (action rod) also. If I were you I would figure out how to strip her down. It's an AK design so it would have to be fairly simple. Once you remove the bolt and carrier you'll have a better understanding if something is binding or dragging causing the bolt not to lock. Also you'll be able to lube the carrier rail and fire control group. Just pay attention to what your doing and parts location when you strip it.

Yeah the dust cover comes off exactly how you described. I have taken it down enough to clean it and oil it but I still haven't completely taken the gun apart enough to know what is wrong, but I will heed your advice and try and figure it out.

Having bought recently a different Century arms gun (CETME) I know they are hackers and beat the crap out of anything they touch. I would take the whole thing down and look at the finish. It could be something as easy as just polishing the bolt carrier so that it won't hang up.

I think you will need to strip down further to really understand what is wrong with it.
