Hi!

Does anybody in this forum have the Match Hammer and Sear from Cabela's installed in his 10/22, and if so what's your experience with it? I can't find the manufacturer in their product discription. Does anybody know who it's made by?

I'm not sure about Cabelas. I purchased a Power Custom matched hammer and sear from Midway and it works as advertised, giving a smooth trigger pull in the 2 1/2lb range.

I was so antsy, I just ordered the Cabelas items, I had a gift certificate. Burnt a hole in my pocket. I figured that if I'm not happy with it, I can always return it. Cabela's is pretty good about that. I'll let you know once I get it if it says anything about the manufacturer and more importantly how it performs.

I don't have the parts yet, but I have taken my trigger group completely apart before. Not that hard once you figure it all out. Before I brought up the nerve to do that though I bought a book by Mark White. It's called "The Ultimate Ruger 10/22, Manual and User Guide". Has tons of information in it and explicitly explains on how to take everything apart AND get it back together. Wasn't even all that expensive. You can get it at Barnes and Nobles for around 20 Bucks I think.

Welcome to the forum TheGermanGuy, and Swede. I installed 2 Volquartsen match hammer kits, in the 2 rifles I'm building. It cost $31, and reduced trigger pull from 7# to a smooth 2 1/2#. Just drop in parts. Easy to do. I also installed an auto bolt release, I paid $9.95. When I compared it to my stock release, I said I can do that. Just ground out the hart shap into an oval shape. Did it for my brother 2 days ago. When he saw how well it worked he looked like . I also installed an extended mag release. Works really nice, and a WeaponKraft Bolt buffer. ($5 for 1. I ordered 3 for $10. Really quiets the action, and prolongs the life of the receiver. (Ya know, a bolt hammering away at a steel pin in an alum receiver) Will probably get a bug tunner to tune the barrel to the ammo. I really like this stuff. Have already gotton some comments at the range. Like "You mean you built that rifle?"

Thanks for the welcome! I just bought an extended mag release, a bolt buffer and an auto bolt release for 9.95 including shipping off of ebay. I think I'm the king of cheap...

I received my Cabelas stuff today. After only 2 business days!! With regular shipping!!! Turns out it is a PowerCustom Hammer and Sear.Haven't had a chance to instal it yet, but the weather in CA right now wouldn't allow me to do a serious test at the range anyways. It keeps blowing and raining pretty heavy. But I was surprised to read, that I actually have to custom fit the sear to my safety. I wasn't aware of that. Just means stoning it a little to assure that the safety will lock securely in the "On" position. Oh well.

Hi Gumbeaux!

You won't improve accuracy with the auto bolt realease, it's only for convenience. It's so you can realease your bolt with one hand instead of two after it was locked back.

I have seen pictures of the inside of Cabellas, it is awsome, with the animals stuffed in there. Also you get first crack at the "Bargin Cave"!!!

Hey, I just installed the Hammer and the Sear, together with the shims. The Sear needed only very little stoning, so if you're doing this yourself, use alot of care, not to take too much of of the Sear, so your safety will still work properly. I dryfired a couple of times with a piece of cardboard in the action to protect the firing pin and it feels very smooth. I'm hoping to get out to the range this weekend to get some rounds through and see if I can notice any improvement.

I save a few empty cases to use as snap caps for dry firing to save the chamber. It works for me.

Went out to the range today and was pleasantly surprised about the difference the hammer and the sear made. I shot 5 shot groups of 5/8" @ 50 yards. Which was a big improvement compared to what I shot before. Now my Butler Creek barrel is only a .720" and I shoot off of my bipod with no sandbags anywhere. So I guess that's an ok group. I wanna install an overtravel stop, which should help against those fliers that I keep having. Of course there's also the fact that I haven't bedded my 10/22 yet. I might just do that as well. What's another 15 Bucks? And just think of all the fun I'll have doing it!?

Oh! A guy at the range that was also shooting a 10/22 gave me a box of Federal Gold Medal Target. Shot a few rounds, and I think they might be my new favorite. Anybody had any experience with them? The Aguila Hypervelocity are definitely out. They misfire, they burn dirty and make a real mess of my receiver. Goner!!
