I have several of the boresnakes for my rifles and in MHO they are great. I do not like to use a solid rod from the muzzle end, so for a quick cleaning they do the job. One pass after a day of hunting in my area gives me a good clean bore.

I use a vinal coated tactical cable, so I pull the patches thru chamber to muzzle. You can make one using "WeedWacker" line. Melt a ball at one end with a lighter, thread on a patch, and feed line into the bore thru the open chamber, and pull thru. Thanks to coyote in our 10/22 forum for the tip. ;)

Bore snakes rock! I have one for every caliber. Like the other guys said, use them for a quick clean, like after a day of hunting.
Don't think you can do a good job getting the copper out with them though

But for the .22 rimfire and shot guns (no copper to deal with), the bore snake is all I use. A little Hoppes #9 just in front of and behind the bristle and 5 pulls leaves it shiney

Hi all,
A good friend of mine in Alaska got me started on the bore snakes. Tried one and sure enough, it did the trick. Although I don't use any Break-free on it I suppose that would make it work better. I agree that it is probably not the best thing for a squeaky clean bore, but after a day chasing Elk, I like to know my bore has no rocks or small children lodged in it. Now about that weed-whacker trick, I like it! considering if one gets tangle-footed and drops his muzzle in the mud, it would get through the crud easier than a snake. It's natural coils would easily fit in a pocket and a few patches in a baggie wouldn't cause any distress.
New to this board, and liking what I read from it's members.

I have a boresnake for my python. Just to see how good it cleans, I used my Outers Foul Out system on the barrel. The cleaning light instantly went to clean. By the way, a little Hoppes 9 on the part just before the bristles.

Carefull when you melt the end of the weed wacker line. Make sure melted line does not land on your fingers, did that two weeks ago, and holy moly what a burn you will get. Still hurts, and has not healed yet , big hole where it landed. Be safe.

Supertrunk, When you get the boresnake, it will actually say in the instructions that you can machine wash it when it gets too dirty, it works.

I just now finally washed my set of boresnakes, with some of them being almost two years old. Just throw it in a garment wash bag like the type intended for women's lingerie, and throw it in the machine-comes back looking brand new.
I know they've been used at least a dozen times before needing a wash. The 12 and 20 ga. snakes were probably used 50x before I washed them.

To keep what happened to captkenpo from happening to you use this little rig. For $5 it'll clean whatever you have from your kids BB gun up to your 45 caliber Boombunshooter. There's no brush but I don't like brushes anyway. With todays chemicals I can't see the reason to use a brush. This thing uses regular 22 caliber patches for everything so there's no reason to be buying different patches for each caliber. I have no connection to the company just a satisfied customer. It really makes bore cleaning an easier job.

Happy trails

Go ahead on and put them things in the wash. When my wife catches me doing something like that, I reply with "Damfino". I use it regularly. My wife now understands that she ain't gettin' a straight answer. Kinda like pleading the Fifth.

"How come the trash isn't taken out?"
"Damfino"

Better yet is to catch her gone and do it. Send her to town for more .223. ;)
