CLP is cleaner, lube, preserver as in Break-Free CLP. Common at most ant sporting goods store. Also, CLP is spec'd for military small arms. I have a blue Mini-14 GB and I recently started using a Tuff-Cloth. Has a super rust inhibitor. Wipe it down let it dry, leaves a dry film protecting and lubricating while not in use. No clean-up before use. Just re-load and start shooting! :rapid:

Thanks BillVan.
CLP is just that, cleaner, lube and protectant. It is spec for most branches of the AF, but some spec ops can choose their own, and I am trying out FirePower and tried out Militec (militec I have issues with in a personal owned AR)--FirePower is good, but (BreakFree)CLP has had some issues come to light, but for firearms seeing desert and sand abuse? The M16/M4 and M14 weapons systems, when properly maintained, are very tough and trustworthy. The key with any firearm is to not overdo it, as well as not to underdo it.

I've used Breakfree for years. I don't like hopies, or otters gun oil, it is too thick. (attracts dirt, and grit). I use Remington oil, its thin, and penetrates better. Also better in cold weather. Just wipe on, wipe off to leave a lite film. I just picked up some Rem oil with teflon. Will try it next.

Many of the petroleum based products get snotty when they get wet. Clenzoil never gets snotty and it doesn't leave much of a film to attract dirt.

Hi guys,
I just picked up some Tetra Gun oil and grease from the local gun shop. Going to try it on some older units I have and see if it works. 'course if any one has any opinions, I'd sure like to hear them. For my money, CLP is tough to beat.

Hey Spud!
I have some OLD Tetra and it stinks. Actually, I bought it new from Brownells and I heard from another board that the smell was really bad. Well, I prepped my STG-58a with it and it lubes great.... it just stinks! Let me know if you experience the same, maybe mine was just dated. :D

I have a blued mini and for the exterior I generally use WD-40. If you spray it on and wipe the excess, leaving a film to dry ,it leaves a protective film on the surface after the stuff dries. Sheath works even better, though I don't keep this stuff on hand most times. As for cleaning, it's CLP and Hoppes Benchrest solvent for the bore if the copper fouling gets bad.

i thought i kept my bore clean since i cleaned it nearly every time i shot it, but last night i kept getting dirt after the wire brush. i ended up with a big pile of pads afterwards, and it took forever to actually get it perfect. i was using hoppes #9 bore cleaner. then towards the end i used some copper cleaner. i love the hoppes #9 oil. protects the exterier of the barrel, and makes the stock shine perfectly.

Very few of us clean a firearm the correct way... initial cleaning after firing then once a day for the next 3 days. Proof that residues continue to work out of the bore for the next several days. I only do this to my collectables... not that I fire them that much anymore. Got tired of cleaning. Probably got brain damage smelling all the fumes!

WD-40 has been known to gum up after extended storage, has also ruined many a wood stock finish. Will also soften the wood where it attaches to metal (receiver, etc.) When I was a LEO, was alerted to incidents where failure to ignite primers on pistols/revolvers that had been cleaned and wiped down with WD-40. To much penatration of the metal (cartridge) but this is rarely a problem for the civilain as they don't keep them loaded as long... at least not with a live round in the chamber. But ut us a great water displacer i.e. WD. Just my .02

Had to do some 10/22 mag cleaning, and since I'm lazy and didn't want to disassemble them, I used WD-40 and blew them out with compressed air. Kid loaded them all back up and we let them set for about a week. Went to shoot them and got some very funny reports, almost like a squib load. We quickly ditched all those rounds and checked the bores for obstructions. So, I would caution against WD-40 for that reason. As for the Tetra gun oil stinking, I haven't had that yet. Hoppe's #9 smells more than the Tetra to me. For my carry guns, CLP has yet to give me any hint of a problem. The Tetra I got was a "try it and see" thing. I was trying to slick up a couple bolt guns with it. So far, so good. But the bores are shiny with CLP.
I save the WD-40 for taking tar off the car finish. :D
