Hello,

I was wondering if some one could help me with an upgrade question. I have a Chinese/Norinco AKM in 7.62X39. I would like to replace the original wooden stocks with Black Polymer stocks. Do they even make these? I would like to (if at all possible) keep the trap door/cleaning compartment in the butstock. The particular AKM I have is the stamped receiver (you can stop laughing now). I have seen some stocks that are simular to mine...but the butstock has a very unattractive "gouge" through the middle of it. If anyone could help me in this matter I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank You,
AK nut

if you look hard and study ads from the shotgun news or the gun trader you can find them there. oh try going to a local gun shop and ask if they have old ones you might score.

Ak nut, the "gouge" you are refering to is known as a lightening cut...it is suppose to help remove some excess wieght of the material...and that is the AK-74 pattern stock, both wood and synthetic...the only slabside synthetics I have seen are from MSG, they advertise in the Shotgun News, but I would stay away from them....the are very poorly constructed....during any sustained rapid fire, the lower handgaurds will melt, and the stock set is also known to crack...Your best bet would be a set from K-Var, but they are the AK-74 pattern....yet, they will fit your gun with only the normal amount of fitting....and the lower handgaurd has a real nice two layer steel heatshield installed in it....

Hope this helps...
