Im having trouble finding a scope mount for my 196 series. I bought this http://www.opticsplanet.net/ncstar-...ill-red-green-rubber-mini-14-scope-rings.html and my problem is after 5 rounds the screw starts to become loose. The only scope mounts I've seen look to be designed the same way. Does anyone know which brand, if any, is a solid fit? I plan on returning the NcSTAR since it's pretty useless at this point.

This won't work because he has a "NON RANCH" Mini model. Meaning that there are no integral scope mounts to mount either rings or a rail to. All new model Mini's have the integral rings, but the older Mini's had two models to pick from. One was the "Ranch" model with the integral mounts on the receiver, the other was the "regular" model that did NOT have the integral mounting grooves on the receiver. This is the one he has and needs some help with.

Not jumping on you, just trying to explain the differences in models of Minis.

I've got a 196 series Mini-14 I've got an S&K mount. mounted on it I tried a B-square side mount it wasn't worth a rat's a**. This S&K is rock solid but you do have to remove your rear site to mount it no big deal with these eyes I need a glass anyhow you'll need part #2270

Look under Ex-Military insta-mounts about a third of the way down.

My experience with the B-Square mount has been more favorable. The screws do require the use of blue Loctite or equivalent. Be advised that if you do remove the mount it will require rezeroing upon reinstallation.
FWIW
YMMV

Paul,
How does the S&K mount at the front?
Have you experienced any problems with ejection or brass whacking the scope?

Guido
The S&K uses the rear site bracket to mount, It just lays on the receiver in the front, it has a set screw in the rear of the mount to act as a cantilever, The mount is as rock solid as any other mount I've ever used. I have even removed it for cleaning the first time with the scope still attached the second time just removed the scope both times it returned to zero. Was even able to remove and replace the bolt with the mount still attached. My Mini throws the brass to the right front 5-6 ft at the 1 o'clock position no problem with the brass whacking my scope turret.
In fact when I called to order it the Gentleman I spoke to said if I didn't like it I could send it back for a full refund.

I bought the blue locktite, so I'll find out this weekend it if worked or not. Is there any other websites with more information on that SKS mount?
I spoke to Gundoc about a mount and his recommendation was S&K that was good enough for me, I will not promote anything that doesn't work for me and this mount does the job, in fact I sent the B-square to another member of PU but I haven't heard back from him yet. The only web-site that I know is their site. Like I said I spoke to the gentleman and he stated if I didn't like it I could send it back for a full refund.
