The barrel band may or may not hurt.It depends on YOUR rifle. Its the same as a pressure point may or may not help on a free floated barrel.More often then not, pressure points & bands hurt accuracy.Usually when they help its because its counteracting others things wrong. The band will affect harmonic vibrations and cause erratic patterns. The only way to be sure with YOUR rifle is to shoot it both ways.Same day, same ammo, same finger on the trigger.Lets us know your results.:sniper:
I'm going to find the ammo my new syn. SS 10/22 likes, then remove the band, and free float the barrel, and bed the stock. I will document each action, and post when I've finished. Then when I get my new bull barrel, and laminate stock I will do it again to determine average group improvement of modified to stock 10/22. So much fun so little time!!!
Just a note, My 10/22 carbine has the band, my 10/22 rifle does not have a band. I have not comparied them for accuracy yet, only a velocity check. I am wondering if the torque of the band screw would change the barrel harmonics? It looks like it could.
Hey. I just purchased a ruger 10/22. It seems to not be a very accurate rifle. I purchased the stainless steel model with a 22" normal barrel.
I've purchased 8 different types of ammo from bulk boxes to target ammo, and my .22 seems to be shooting all over the place. We're talking 3-3.5...
I got myself a Maglula 10/22 Mag Loader and Unloader for my own Christmas Present this year. one of several presents I got myself.
This thing takes approximately 15 seconds to figure out,,, and it works Bitchin' !!!
Much easier than loading by hand. Well worth the cost.
Talking in a thread about the 10/22 in the Mini-14 section a few days ago got me to thinking I should grab some higher cap mags. All I had were 3 factory 10-rounders, and 2 old Eagle plastic 30-rounders I forgot I had until I found them recently in an old box.
The Eagle mags worked fine last...
Happy New Year to All! You guys with vintage 10/22's, what brand of ammo's giving you best accuracy? I have a '78 Sporter Deluxe, 100% stock, Vortex 2x8x32 scope. I sighted in with mediocre brand name stuff, Federal 525 red brick stuff, and Winchester 333 brick stuff, accuracy was so-so at...
