The Daley agenda is proceeding through the Illinois Legislature. If we're going to turn this around it's time to get off our fourth point of contact. The semi auto ban would make any centerfire rifle with a detachable magazine and one other accessory (folder, pistol grip, flash hider, bayonet lug, etc.) illegal. All magazines of more than 5 round capacity will also be illegal.
Check out the Illinois State Rifle Association web page or the NRA-ILA site for more info. BTW: There's a demonstration planned for 20 Mar 03 at 0900 in Springfield originating at the Stratton Bldg Cafeteria.
I'd like to give more info but I want to post to some more forum sites.

In New York City they just ordered the owners of proscribed weapons to surrender them to the police or get rid of them outside of the city and submit the evidence.

Oh, and the registration which was specifically promised not to be used for confiscation when introduced - it's data was specifically used for that purpose. People got visit/note from the police based on the registration records. which makes perfect sence except it was specifically promiced not to happen.

I spoke to the owner of a local gun shop and he said that Mini-14s and Mini-30s would be included in IL-SB1195. There is NO grandfather clause with IL-SB1195! All Pre-Ban and Postban are included

Within 90 days of passage of SB1195, you will have to do one of the following:

1. Turn your banned guns in to the police - for no compensation of course.
2. Bring your banned guns to a gunsmith and have the receiver cut or the bolt welded shut.
3. Transfer your banned guns out of state.
4. Sell your house and move out of state.

What would happen if you got caught with a gun banned by Daley?

Penalties for possessing a banned gun will be severe. For example, that M1 Carbine handed down to you by your grandfather plus 3 magazines would earn you 30 years hard time in prison. That extra oiler kit you have for the Carbine would get you another 7 years hard time.

More info can be found here: http://www.isra.org/1195_compliance.htm
and here http://www.isra.org/daley_bills.pdf
and http://www.isra.org/march_17.pdf

If passed, Rock River Arms, Springfield Armory, Les Baer, and other firearm manufactures will have to relocate out of IL.

Welcome to the forum SprngfldHiCap. Thanks for filling us in.

I hope everyone with a gun of any kind writes their congressman, and senators. This will only be a step toward disarming us. Just think what laws they could pass if we were all unarmed

Thanks for the welcome, I've been a long time lurker and have learned much from everyones posts. :D

I have called, written, and e-mailed my congressman and senators, on numerous accasions.

I'd be down in springfield on Thursday to show my support, but I cannot afford to shut my business down for a day.

If the bill passes and becomes a law, I will have no choice to sell my house and move my business and family to a friendly state!

I would suggest that all FIB... Err Illinois gun owners sell their said banned weapons to Wisconsinites across the border for 1/2 of their value. Sure beats getting nothing from the cops. Also, please note that there are often gun shows in Edgerton and Janesville (about 20 mi north of the Illinois border). :)

PS. Just kidding about the FIB thing.

I don't mind. I own a computer repair shop. We'd really be in trouble when they start banning computers!

 "Sorry but your computer can only have two of the following "Evil" attachments, or it will be illegal for you to possess:

1. a high capacity hard drive
2. 1 120mm Case fan that must not have a cfm greater than 50
3. a case window
4. an internal case light
5. a power supply that is at least rated to 300 watts but not more than 500 wats
6. a floppy drive

Crapers! I may have given them an Idea! :D

Actually, if I do choose to move (if they pass that bill into law), I own property (up towards Iron Moutian, MI) in WI and I'd move there.

Ok, I know I am politically stupid, but where do these proposed laws come from? How do they get started? We need to find out who is responsible for getting the ball rolling in the first place. I bet it is not just the politician that presented it at the state level.

I can't believe we are seeing so much of this crap when we are at war and there is a threat of attacks on our homeland. Did anyone learn the lesson of 9/11?

The legeslative branch of state government introduces, and passes laws by majority vote, then either signed into law or vetoed by the governer. If you study who votes for what, you will see gennerally (not always) the democrat party is more liberal, and supports liberal ideas, such as reducing crime, by removing guns from the law abiding. Now that makes sense dosen't it.

BTW, I am moving this interesting thread to the general discussion, but leaving a redirect here to get better coverage.

A friend of mine, that went down to Springfiled yesterday for the rally, told me that A Democratic Illinois Senate memeber suggested that the Daley may shift its focus to banning ammunition if he can not get his "Gun-grabbing" bills passed into law.

Daley will just keep re-writing the same bills for the next 4 years untill he get's them passed. Oh did you hear the new one? Boyb*tch (the Govenor) of IL said he won't sign the bill that will raise the FOID card to $25 a year. The thing is if it passes the house & the senate he won't have to sign it. If he passes on signing it, it will automatically become law with in 3 months.

That son of a goat was smiling the whole he said it.

I think you are going to see violence in the street if Daley gets his way.

It makes me wonder just how many of the people that have been denied firearms due to background checks have actually been prosecuted. If you falsify a federal form isn't that a felony?
