Yes. With an aperture diameter of 0.138", it's a vast improvement over the factory aperture which is too small for general purpose use. When you figure the mil-spec AR-15 small aperture is 0.050" and the large aperture is 0.200", the 0.138" aperture is a good compromise for general purpose use.

How does that work? Is that just a replacement drop-in part for the ruger factory aperture?

It seems a bit expensive at $50. Why not just to drill out the factory apperture? Or make the whole thing out of a piece of aluminum?

I am even thinking about filing a notch above the apperture to use as a regular sight in low-visibility conditions.

I just installed one, and I don't know how I ever made it without it! It really is a vast improvement over the factory rear sight. Went right in with no hassle, and no need for any special tools. I ordered mine through Brownells, and I only paid $20 (plus s&h) for it. Part number 006-103-015.
