I see lots of Hunting calibers at Wal-mart.
.243, .270, .30-06 etc.
Also lots of .380 and .40 S&W but no 9mm, ,45 acp, .357 Mag, or .22lr.

Why have the manufacturers not geared up allready?
3 million dollar machine, with a 1-2 year lead time. And that's just for one round, repeat for other high volume rounds.
Increased volume of raw materials (cartridge brass, lead, gilding metal)
Additional primer manufacturing capability (add another million)
Additional powder manufacturing capability (add another few million)
Expanded building to house said machinery.
Thoughts of demand drop off in a couple years, after investing the several million dollars to increase capability to current demand levels.

so get some components, wheelweight lead, casting and loading gear, a $1000 loading license from the Feds and make a lot of money selling "re-manufactured' ammo. that's how CorBon, Black Hills, garrett and many others got their start!

invest in some equipment and learn to reload, in the long run you'll save money.
I have a inventory of ammo, just need more powder! maybe this weekend?
I should have bought more shells at a garage sale last month, 20 for $2, .223, 30-30, 30-06
Maybe I'll go knock on the door and see if he still has any?
I get my bullets from Sierra - at bulk prices for seconds. - good thing their sorta local!

Hi sharky8js;

I am genuinely envious. Here they've only had PPU .223 intermittently, no bulk packs of .22LR and a limit of 3 boxes that all must be different calibers. Even so its going fast.

All the best,

Got an AR and five 30 rd. mags. before they skyrocketed in price, and I thought I was pretty much set because I reload. :p

Then I went looking for reloading components...:blink:

Got a hold of 500 Midway 34 grain Dogstown bullets (last bullet weight they had?) and found some IMR 4198, so I'm hoping that I'll survive until supplies start showing up again.

Hey, at least it will go BANG! when I pull the trigger right? :)

Anyone see any decent prices on hunting rounds online? this is getting to be real bull****. Why have the manufacturers not geared up allready?
Everything is sold out everywhere since middle of december.

My local walmart got some Tula 223 remington in stock a couple of days ago. That was the first time in 2 months I have seen 223 anywhere.

Hi Kevin;

Talking to friends of mine up north and reading posts from different regions of the country, it seems like the ammo situation is a little different everywhere. Back in Illinois my friends are having no trouble getting .22LR but 5.56/.223 is unobtainium. Here, it has been tight, but I've increased my stock of .223 by about 240 rounds since the day, and I could have added double that if not for other purchases. But here .22LR is completely unobtainium - I lucked into a grand total of 250 rounds of the stuff with a lot of phone calling and driving around over the course of 2 full months of effort. .308 never dried up completely, and 7.62x54R is plentiful (man I wish I would have bought a Mosin Nagant when I could find one!). .40S&W never dried up completely either, but 9x19 has been a no-go. Lucked into about 500 rounds of .45acp though.

All the best,

Now that walmart is limiting sales, hopefully ammo will stay on the shelves a little longer.

My walmart finally put an end to people buying a case of 40 S&W at a time, or a case of 9mm at a time.

Now people are limited to 3 boxes per caliber every 24 hours.

Walmrt should have limited sales 4 years ago.

Our Department of Homeland Security bought 21 million rounds of ammo in just the last 10 months. Add to that the stocking up every other executive branch agency and every law enforcement agency across the country is doing and there ain't much left for We The People. It's not that hard to believe.

The real question is, who are they planning to fight with all that ammo? That's enough ammo for 15 years of sustained war based on the rate our own military used it at the height of the Iraq war. Think back to Patrick Henry's famous speech at St. John's Church (paraphrasing):

Are all those bullets necessary for feats of love and reconciliation? Where is the enemy in this quarter of the globe that requires this massive accumulation of supplies? I have news for you gentlemen, we are that enemy.

And what have we done to earn this distinction? We have done precisely what they have said we should do more of. We have petitioned, we have remonstrated, we have prostrated ourselves before the throne and begged it to stop this tyranny. These actions have caused additional violence. We have been kicked in the teeth by the foot of he who sits on that throne.

There is no longer any room for hope. If we wish to be free, we must fight! I repeat it sir, we must fight! An appeal to arms and to God is all that is left for us. I know not what course other men shall take sir, but for me, give me liberty or give me death.

Haunting word from our past.
