I recently checked out a muzzle brake made by Bushmaster that mimics the .223 brake for Kalashnikov's AK74. The claims are impressive, and while I've not handled that exact weapon, I have felt the taming effect the AK47's brake has on 7.62. Could this brake perform better (at enhancing her MOA) than the Black Warrior 'double brake'? For that matter, does anyone have one of these on their -14? It seems to me the best (cheap) course of action would be to cut the barrel on a -14 back to 16" and install one of these, but if the BWDMB is as good as you all have testified to, I'll just save the ten bucks!!

Many of us on the forum have the Black Warrior Double Muzzle Brake installed. I have one on my Mini-14 and one on my Mini-Thirty. Both function well in decreasing group size. If I remember correctly (many mods ago), it cut my Mini-14 group size in half, from 5" down to 2.5". Your mileage may vary.

Hey Reflex, We don't know if their would be a diff. in performance between the brakes or not. If you opted for the AK style brake, the BlackWarrior is only another $20 . You could test them, using the same ammo, same day etc. would be a worth while project. The jurry is still out on what causes the brake improvement, the weight on the end of the barrel, the gas porting, or a combination?
Z-man did an interesting experiment on his mini, he removed his brake, and trimed, and recrowned in 1/4" increments, and got improvements. Read his post: http://www.perfectunion.com/forums/showthr...=&threadid=1818

I'll try both of 'em on a stock-barrel -14, and see what happens to grouping.

This won't really help answer the
'weight versus cancellation' question. The Bushmaster brake is a pinch heavier than the Black Warrior, and (supposedly) eats more recoil. From a design standpoint, I believe them. BUT....

Only one way to find out!! I'll post my findings as soon as I finish. Thanks!

P.S. Could any of you guys tell/show me what the underside of that double brake looks like?

Hey reflex, the BlackWarrior brake is solid on the bottom. It only has holes, and slots on the top, and sides.
We would be very interested if you could test them both for us, if the AK shoots better I'll buy one too. There could be a variable at play here, one brake may work better with certain ammo, and the other may work better with certain other ammo. Keep us posted.

Joe here ! I recently sent back to Bushmasters their AK-74 Brake. I had installed it on my 184 Mini. Everytime I took a shot I would get spit on from gases, or something. I took it to a gunsmith to make sure I had installed it correctly. He said it was fine. Apparently the hot gases were coming out the sides, and back into my face. Will try one of the Black Warriors.

were ya shooting handloads with a slow burning powder?

have a friend who had his 50 cal muzzelloader ported,,,,now it blows burning black powder out the ports if he uses to much,great fun to watch at night.

Hey everyone! Haven't been here in a while.

Here's a link to Cheaper Than Dirt. If it's the one you want, let me know, and I'll mail you the one I was using. I ended up getting a barrel shroud from Bybon a while back. Closed my groups to 1", and looks reasonably awesome. I'll try to post pics if anyone wants to see...

I looked for Bybon on Googles, no luck. Cabela's does have barrel shrouds. Pics and info please!
Did you not get improvement in accuracy with the brake, and so are not using it?

Ok y'all let's think this one thru! Do a search on this forum for all of bybon's posts & you'll get your pictures. I was interested in what he had but I never heard of any independent test results. All I ever got was "His" results. Bybon is cheaper than Clark or so I remember. Check him out.
