I am seriously considering accurizing my mini 14 through either Clark Custom Gunsmithing or Accuracy Rifle Systems. I am looking for feedback from anyone who has had any experience with either of these companys. ARS seems to promise more (better barrel, trigger and accuracy), but I did read one bad thread about them not standing behind there work, etc. Also looking for opinions on spending $700-$1000 to go from 2.5 MOA to hopefully 1 MOA if not sub MOA. I love the mini for handling and running game. I want to have a nice, light, accurate rifle I'll have complete confidence in out to 300 yards when calling coyotes, with the ability to take more than one when the opportunity arises. Thanks for your info.

I have had 2 mini's done by ARS, one 24" mini-14, 223 and 1 20" mini-30 in 6mmPPC. they shoot great but they are not as light as they were. If your mini will shoot consistant 2.5" groups, why fix what ain't broke. thats still 7.5" groups at 300 and that is stretching the range for coyotes. Try working on the trigger and bedding that should get it down to around 2.0" or a little less. The conversions really make them shoot but you give up a lot of what you like about the rifle. They're heavy, you have to much invested in them to make them a knock around truck rifle. Not trying to talk you out of it but just letting you know the facts.

I agree with Ridge Runner partly here. If it really does do 2.5 @ 100yrds, probably leave it. However it is rewarding to try new things and sub moa is a nice project. If you do why not put a 18" or 20" barrel on ( I know, flash & velocity, accuracy ) to save weight. Of course the plus side of weight is less recoil. And who knows, maybe Mills has the money to not worry about banging it up in the field. He should team up with David M. Now there is a guy who puts his money where his mouth is. Also, as I posted elsewhere here, I have a stainless mini 30 at ARS waiting its return. Getting a 20" barrel and trigger job. When it gets back adding a new stock and bedding. WOW, now that I wrote it all down and looked at it , can't wait. Heck, just go for it Mills!

Hi Guys:
Sounds like I should open a business!
I did mine myself and I have achieved sub moa at 100 yds. I cut the barrel to 16 1/4" and crowned the barrel, fit a Choate Machine flash suppressor, put on an ATI stock (more for looks), and away she went. This gun was 2.5~3" at 100 yds before modifications. No trigger job or any other mods. Up top is a cheapie Bushnell trophy 1 moa dot.
How do I post pics off the hard drive?

There is a lot of that type of internet accuracy going around lately. True MOA comes with consistency to POI, not just a few random tight groups. Take the Cajungeo MOA challenge and then come back and tell us how you have a true MOA Mini.
I claim BS!

My final attempt after tinkering around and just getting used to the trigger, was 5 shots measuring 7/8" just under the bull. At 54 years old, I don't need to impress or BS anybody. I don't know who this Cajungeo dude is, but 5 shots measuring 7/8" is sub moa in my book. Don't call people a liar you don't know.

take it easy. its true that most minis can't do sub moa, but you don't know for a fact that his can't. with a few mods, many can get under 2". some posters have gotten lucky with minis that shoot very better than average.

You should take the time to Know this "Cajungeo Dude", he built this site. He was the brains behind all things Mini and Mini accuracy. Look to your right and you will see him as a Mod. To bad this is old info as he has passed away. Do a search for his MOA challenge and do the deed, that is if you are man enough.

Do you know any that can??? Or better yet do you know any that can do 2 MOA consistently??

LOL. come on now...are you for real? i really hope this was a joke.

in the right hands my mini does 3-shot sub moa at 50 yards consistantly (1.5 with irons-10rounds)...haven't tried 100 very much. you can believe me or not, doesn't really matter. but i see your point, the mini is not normally an moa rifle, but some have been very sucessful with mods. most minis do "tap out" at about
2" with simple mods though. to do better you normally have to spend big $$$, or get a target.

Yup:
after I shot about 20 rds and converged POA into the center, my first two 5 and 6 shot groups were just over an inch 1 1/4 and 1 3/8 respectively. I could care less Mseric if you believe me, I know it to be true and came here to share my experiences. Maybe you should practice more.
Mini 14 SS 195 series.
HawkGuy, please send a pm on uploads, I don't see manage attachments in control panel and FAQ's mention Albums in control panel and I don't have that either. I hate this computer stuff!

well, one is obvious. the mini target model is well established and accepted as being able to shoot MOA. as for 2", i've seen 19 of 20 put inside 2 inches from a ranch. so..yes to both. the platform is capable.....

but is the shooter? MOA shooting is not only gun, but shooter. i am a pretty crummy shot & in the limited 100 yard shooting i have done, i keep them in 3" pretty consistantly. i do 8-10 round groups with irons at 50 within 1.5. i think from my experience, with a few mods & in the right hands, mini's are about 2" or 3" guns. can some do better? i don't think its impossible.

seems a lot of these mods will make the rifle much heavier anyway, so i'd just invest the money in a target version ($800). that way you end up with 2 rifles :D

also, ruger has BAD policies about heavily modded rifles, so if a FP breaks, they will return your rifle to stock & you lose all your $$$$.

just my 2 cents.

Sorry, but MOA is Minute-of Angle and it is a unit of measure.. True MOA is 1.047 inches at 100 yards. For your 50 yard groups to be MOA they must measure .5235 or less. In reality your 1.5 inch 50 yard groups are right around 3 MOA.

What is Minute of Angle

ok....again, i clearly stated i am a pretty crummy shot. ;) the range officer at my range did 2 sub 1" groups (if i had to guess, 3/4") with my rifle at 50, so technically he was very close to your MOA, with my standard ranch rifle.

but you ignored a lot of my last post? like i said, a mini target is proven to be an MOA rifle & i have seen a shooter almost hit 20 in a row in 2".

so in answer to your question, yes the mini platform can be a 2" or even a 1" gun in the right hands. depends on the shooter and the rifle.

Don't waste your time hawk, he's an "internet expert". I register to come in and share what I have done. It took me a month and a martini to take some very good advice and cut the barrel down. It is counter intuitive to do so. But the rifle shoots absolutely fantastic. I agree that I did several things at once so I cannot attribute any one item in taking it under 1 inch, but it does it nun the less. The ati ultimate stock with the aluminum upgrade is very comfortable. and the cheek rest all the way up is a solid anchor.
But you're right about the shooter, also own a CETME which once fully cleaned and adjusted, I put 10 rds covered by a fifty cent piece at 100yds. Which also bolstered the 16" barrel notion.

Where have you seen this Proof? I have not seen anyone show proof of MOA with any Mini, Target or otherwise. By proof, I mean shooting the Cajun MOA challenge.

My point exactly, 20 at 2 inches is a 2 MOA rifle not an MOA rifle. The Mini cannot do MOA, can't be done, no how no way. 2 MOA maybe, MOA nope.
