i read an article recently about a fella who did accurizing work on M-1's and M-14's, he said one of the things that he did was to install a lug at the rear of the action and another in front to firmly mount the reciever to the stock, he said that to depend on the trigger guard lock up system, while ideal for a battle rifle, did nothing to aid in bench rest accuracy. that idea has got me to thinking, i havent heard of anyone doing that to a mini, seems to me that it would be a far cheaper fix than sending off to some outfit for a custom barrel....what do you fellas think?,

There are lugs although not substantial on the front of the action as well as the rear (they fit into the stock reinforcement). The purpose of bedding the action is to obtain a tighter fit with the stock and a substantial lug on the front and rear of the action with proper inletting and bedding should make the stock and action/barrel alignment more consistent.

One or more of the Accuracy companies do put in set screws in three places. I believe they are #1 rear and to the right, #2 forward and to the left, #3 and one that is a stud that is hidden under the bolt. I thought this was very interesting. It would have to keep the weapon from jumping around in the stock, but would take away any sense of easy feild striping of the weapon. It would be well worth it to me. May Try it, its no fun paying someone else to tinker my toy.

These lugs are called "Recoil Lugs". The mini has a nice set of recoil lugs. Their purpose is to transfer recoil energy to the stock. Now if there is slop between the recoil lugs, and stock, the receiver/barrel/muzzel will move in the stock, causing inaccuracy, and fliers. With the recoil lugs bedded, either by steel pin bedding, piller bedding, or regular glass bedding, the barrel/receiver/stock will move as one.

The pin bedding swordslinger mentioned is done by ASI. http://www.accuracysystemsinc.com/mini_14_...ccessories.html

from the way i understood the article that i read on accurizing an M-1, they added lugs or beefed up what was allready there and then they put set screws behind and in front of the trigger assembly up through to the reciever to hold the stock solidly to the reciever.
