Being a thrifty type I always look for a bargain in shooting equipment. I recently became curious with the Howa 1500 rifles. I talked to a few people that owned them and then purchased one. I bought the barrelled action only in a 308 heavy barrel. Wholesale on these is about 240.00 so expect to pay about 300.00. I went with the action only because I wanted a mcmillian A2 stock. If you get the gun complete it costs about 125.00 more so you might as well send that money on toward a good stock. If you like laminate wood boydboys.com has some nice ones for about 125.00. This howa is a short action and they take remington 700 bases. Im using the leupold one piece for the 700 long action on this gun it attaches to the rear hole and is a perfect fit.

The scope Im using is the tasco varmit/tactical that costs about 85.00. It works fine but I will be replacing it with something more rugged in the future. After a 45 round break in. I was shooting 3/4 MOA groups using fed gold metal match. And the stock has not been bedded yet. Right know im only into this rifle for about 700.00 with optics and mounts. Any questions of comments feel free. These rifles are the best kept secret in the industry.

Kick ass rifle, dude. How do you like that shepard scope? I have no experience with them but have always been curious. My shooting buddie has a savage 10 in a choate stock. We took it and filled the grip and contoured it like a psg1 grip, removed all of the coarse stippling, filled in the "ultimate sniper" jazz, texturised it and he put a urban (he calls it) camo paint job. A total improvement in ergonomics and it only took a dremel, a file and some paint. If he has any scanned pics ill post them.

Thank you. I'd love to see the pics. I just got the stock about a week ago or so. LOVE THE SCOPE!!!! I was curios about it, called and ordered one. Went to a friends property and set up a few targets at different distances. Read the book and set it up. It does what they say it does. One shot zeroing and accurate as all get out. The 26' heavy barrel helps in oh so many ways too. I've always loved Remington. Had a 700 BDL in 270 with a Leupold 6.5 x 20 x 40 AO that was one heck af a rifle. Sold it to a friend and got this. I like this more. 308 is more readily available, cheaper, than 270. I load my own.
HAPPY SHOOTIN'!!!

Speaking of Shepherds I love mine also. One word of advise though, If your shooting handloads with high BC bullets (like the A-max or Nosler BT) crono. your load and call Shepherd for their recogmendation. My 30-06 with BT's had to move up to the one they recogmend for the 300 wim mag. Sure am glad I called first or I would have gotten the wrong one

Very true Tailgunner. When I ordered mine they asked me some questions pertaining to what type of load I'd be using. Had a little discussion with them and they said to get the 310-P2 for myapplication. A point I forgot to mention.
