I would think it's highly unlikely since there are American manufacturers of this caliber. If you're talking about cheap surplus ammo, that's up to congress and the importation laws they come up with.

THere are a few rifles that are American made or nice hunting rifles that are chambered for this round. I think it will be around for awhile. The 5.45 round now that might be a different story.

Lets see, sks shotgun news $99. box of shells 7.62 x 39 $3. This caliber is not going extinct, The government does not have the money to buy back all of the surplus.
And lets say that they did a forced recall, NOPE to many small town farmers and ranchers use this round to shoot varmints. And needless to say local "militia".
Don't know what the greater fear would be {for the government} groups of guys with high powered guns. or billy bob sitting 400yd away drinking a 12 pack like he was back home shooting squirrels. and your the squirrel.
That sounds like the revolutionary war?
