Mr. T.: some have reported that the Wilson buffers built specifically for the Mini-14 were too thick and affected operation, but that the 1911-specific ones worked well out of the box. Sandog needed to slice the Mini-specific ones to half-thickness to work reliably at the front. But every Mini is different and what works for one may not work for the next.

The only store-bought buffers other than Wilson-1911 I got were through Amazon, but they no longer offer them. They were black and not a full-face version, appeared to be mostly nylon, and designed for the 1911 but worked well in my Minis. Have one in my 1911 still. Still have most of the pack of ten, but also got some Wilson 1911 buffers (still sealed). They're in my "go" bag.

Boy it's been a while .. Happy New Year.
I was busy with the holidays, getting ice fishing gear ready and working on a few other rifles ( lever actions ) and family in general.
Any how I thought I would give you an update on leaving the 10 magazines loaded for a month. It did nothing.
I read somewhere about modifying the follower base so I shaved about 1/8" or so off. The magazine with 10 rounds seated slightly easier, and I mean slightly, on the closed bolt but would not slide the first round in without force. It did eliminate the brass dent and I only saw a scratch. I then cut 1/2 link on the spring off and retested. It seats easier on the closed bolt and inserts the first round 90 % of the time with ease. Once in a while I have to push the charging handle to load the first round and again the brass was not dented.
Total wash out today with the rain so I plan on hitting the range tomorrow morning and I'll let you know how it functions. :sniper:

I'm happy with my 20-rounders: both Ruger and the CDNN OEMs.

Got two Ruger 5-rounders and two Ruger 10-rounders, as well as four Masen 10-rounders in anticipation of Virginia going Commie (looks like it might).

Haven't fired any of them yet, and still need to toy with the Masens: one of four has a hard time keeping the 10th round in. Smoothing and cleaning and lip-aligning should help, but the horses and barn cats keep reminding me they're hungry...

Just a follow up to the 10 round magazine modifications.
I hit the range this morning at 8:30. It was 39 degrees with a 10 mph breeze and some gusts. I loaded the magazine with 10 rounds and it inserted much easier than stock. There was no denting to the brass of the top round. The very first try of the magazine I had to give a slight push on the loading handle to load the first round. It fired all 10 rounds perfectly and the last shot bolt hold open functioned.
The second time, and through the 6th, with the mag loaded with 10 rounds the top round fed without me having to push on charging handle and again functioned flawlessly. It was a good day !
When I have the chance I want to test it once again at the range. If all goes well again I'll modify the rest of the mags.

Hi everyone it's been a while. I was getting out as much as possible ice fishing !

This is an update on the 10 round magazine I had modified. I had a few occasions to hit the outdoor range over the winter. In my opinion the modification is not worth it. Yes it will seat easier on the closed bolt. Yes it will cycle the top round (of ten rounds) most of the time. But with that came a reliability issue. I had some failure to feeds and failure to ejects which I never had before. To be certain I loaded 9 rounds in a few other stock ten rounders and no problems.
