Cornut....when you pull the trigger its like....what in the world was THAT! I have the raging bull 6 1/2" and there is no comparison to the .44 mag which is really one I like shooting. I wouldnt have it without the
taurus style grips thats a must and it must be ported. Any other configuration is a NO GO. You wont be able to enjoy but the first few rounds and I like shooting a while. Taurus sucked up the recoil extremely well. BUT I HAD TO SEND IT TO THE SHOP 3 times to have it retimed. I will have another one but it will be a well set up Freedom Arms ONLY. (and I love ruger SBH"S) Spend the bucks or dont buy one. Truely. :cannon:

:D Thanks for the reply. It is a raging bull 6 1/2 inch polished blue (looks real black) Fired it two days ago and was impressed with its accuracy and recoil. Did'nt think the concusion was as rough as the Smith 29. The porting is what makes the difference I think. And stops muzzle climb. The grips are butt ugly with the orange stripe on the backstrap, but very easy on the hand. Would not put checkerd wood grips on it, would not want to get MEAT on both ends. The cylinder lock up at both ends makes a solid looking unit out of it. Only thing I do'nt care for is the little key lock thingy. Guess thats from being old school.

I have the Raging bull w/ported 6 1/2" bbl and took it out with my Ruger Super Redhawk .44mag. I personally DON'T like the porting!! WHY? Because the recoil is twice that of the .44mag,and instead of rolling upward like the Super Redhawk,it tries to shove your wrist up into your shoulder STRAIGHT BACKWARD!!

If I had it to do again,I'd NOT have a ported model!!

I have a Ruger SRH, and I absoloutely love shooting it. Yes, it has about double the recoil as a .44 SRH, but I dont have a problem with it. I believe factory loads quite manageable in the 454. In the handloads I have for it, it gets to be quite a handful, still a lot of fun I think.

A friend of mine has one he let me shoot a some of his hand loads with 240 gr. bullets and the recoil was lighter than my super blackhawk. then he put in a cyl. full of factory 300 gr bullets and I shot it twice and gave it back to him and I don't care to shoot one EVER again!

The 300grain is the load I was refering to in my post. Let's face it,you don't buy the 454Casull to shoot 240grain bullets!!!!
And yeah.....most people hand it back after a couple of shots with max loaded 300grainers :D :D :D

"Cornut" mail me and i'll send you about 5 movie clipps when me and a friend fire's my friends Raging Bull .454 for the first time... A very plesent test :D

I actually loves BIG bangs and loads of recoil, so i didnt think it was that bad  .. It's an uncomped Raging Bull, and we shoot some pretty hard boiled loads.. We also shot at an Hardox 400 5mm thick plate, and it made big bumps on it and it started to crack *hehehhe*
But when i fired the basterd with one hand it did hurt just a little bit <_<

Well, Mail me if you guys wana c some nice clipps.. about 1 MB each

BR

Marcus

By the way, i shot one thing today that did hurt some.. a SAKO TRG 42 in .338 lapua magnum :) shot about 6 rounds, and i can feal that right now...

I shot a 454 casull at the range. This old dude had the 300g rounds loaded real hot, and that thing had a modded trigger, so it was pretty freaky just picking the thing up, ya know. Shot real nice though.

You know whats crazy though. My father in law shoots his Thompson Contender chambered in 730 waters ONE HANDED. This thing is like shooting a rifle, but without the buttstock, just a pistol grip.

I own a Bull with an 8 3/4in. barrel. I find it very comfortable to shoot. In fact I have a friend who shot it very fast and very accurately. He made the comment that they must have made it for rapid fire.
The porting is designed to keep the muzzle from flipping up. This keeps you on target, kind of, and keeps the hammer/back strap from slamming into the web of your hand. I hear this is a problem with the FA's.

I just fired my 454 this evening, bout 40 rds. 240,250,260&300grainers. 4 different companies, the winchester 250gr was somewhat mild, the ones that seemed the most potent were the hornady or the win 300s. All in all none of them seemed even approaching the punishing ive heard friends speek of, but I have never had a problem with recoil. I have a jdj 475.(necked up 45/70) and it will go side by side for recoil with the 454 any day. I havent reached full loads with it yet as far as pressure signs. I would tell anyone that no slouch the 454. is very reasonable for someone used to 44. mags and a natural next step. Mine is an unported freedom arms 83 with smooth grips, I have shot double action revolvers with ruger grips and they do tend to recoil straight back into the web of your hand . I prefer the rolling recoil of the single action.

A doctor published an an article in the American Rifleman many years ago. It was the first of several that I have since read about the possible effects of shooting high recoil pistols and revolvers. The message was 'say hello to athritis and bone degeneration in the hand and wrist'. I sometimes wonder if the pain in my right hand, which is much more severe than the left, might be a by-product of my youthful enjoyment of heavy loads in a light weight 44 mag. I pretty much limit myself to 9mm now, but it is a little too late.
