I have only shot one so far. It was a Browning A-bolt in 300WSM. It had a "quiet brake" installled not a BOSS. There is no such thing as a quiet brake!!!!!! I was impressed with the accuracy and felt recoil. I would like to test the Remington version but it seems Remington shot themselves in the foot by marketing the ULTRA MAGS first instead or th SHORT ACTION ULTRA MAGS!!! Big corporate screwup especially when I've heard they had the R&D on the short ones 2 years ago!!! Both designs are based on the Bench-Rest thory that short and fat is the way to go!! Look at the PPC's and BR family!! Burn the powder qickly in a short fat case and get amazed at the accuracy you get downrange!! Probably either one of the cases will do a good job !! It's just whichever you can get and when. My own opinion(and it's like something else we all have) I think the Remington case will prove to be the most accurate. I also think it will be the first to be relegated to the "obsolete cartridges" bin because of the emphasis to get the ULTRA MAGS out there!!! GHD

I just bought a Win Mod 70 in 300WSM. It rocks! I think it will outlast the Remington SAUM because its just a little bit longer and has more case capacity.
I could quote you the numbers, but, suffice to say, it is just about identical to the 300 win mag. IMHO, the 300 win mag is now obsolete!
Yes, a cartridge the same as a win mag, in a short action!

dskjet, I agree that the WSM will win the popularity contest simply because it was there first!! I still want to test the SAUM before I make the decision on which one to chamber. Not a statistical difference in the performance but I'll take the "little bit shorter fatter case" without testing. After testing, may be a different story. Remington is going to rip their butt twice if not careful!!! They should have released the short ones first and then they're offering it in a Model 7 action!!!!!! Put it in a 700 short action with all choices!! ADL, BDL, Sendero, Mtn. Rifle, Varmint!! They would have taken the country by storm!!!! Something on the likes of the 17HRM!!!!! GHD PS. Glad you like yours and as I said I was impressed with the 300WSM I shot in a Browning. Just haven't tried both yet!!

Saw my first model 7 in 300SAUM today!! Stainless Synthetic, felt like a feather in my hands!!! I'd bet it would feel like pissed off mule against your shoulder!!!! Not enough meat on that thing for me to want one! I would like to try one built on a different action though! GHD

well groundhog i would be building it on a ruger action with a laminated thumb hole stock with a fluted barrel..hopefully this will be heavy enough to keep the kick down and light enough to carry to hunt with...but i guess if its not light enough to carry i will look like the hulk by the time the season ends..:sniper:

The Ruger 77 is probably a good choice to build on. Order a Douglas Match barrel in the configuration you want and let us know how it does!! I think it will be an inherently accurate cartridge no matter whether you choose the Remington or the Winchester version to build on!! I'm thinking of the Remington version necked down to 25!!! You talkin' about the varmint gun from hell!!!! GHD
