but I have not noticed a difference between the two. I do think my mini ranch is more accurate with heavier bullets though and it is easier for me to find 223 in 68 and 69 grain weights.
My mini-tac is (seemingly) more interested in the bullet wgt. than actual caliber.
Mine likes 62gr. bullets and cares not what the box says .223 or 5.56 NATO.
Study the attached and knowing the Mini-14 was re-tooled to handle the 5.56 I think you'll come to the conclusion that the 5.56 will be more accurate not withstanding mfg. tolerances in the chamber.
I don't think the Mini was ever 're-tooled' to handle 5.56, ever since the first Mini's on the market, the 180 series and the AC556's the Mini has been chambered for 5.56 and .223. Ruger uses a propitiatory chamber that handles both rounds.
