I went to the local Gander Mountain as a result of this thread, as they've always had plenty of .223/5.56 even during previous dry spells. Shelves completely bare, everything from 22LR to .223 was completely gone (almost 15' of 6 row shelves empty). Only some 17HMR left, and most of the shotgun and larger centerfire hunting rounds were left.
This is beyond ridiculous. I've watched this go up every day, yesterday it was $25, now its $34.59. For 20 rounds of xm855. I used to balk at anything over $9/20 on xm193 or xm855.
Friend said our local Gander Mountain had a bunch of American Eagle. 223 100rd bulk packs in stock, had him grab me one for $50. Local range had some PMC bronze in for $10.99.
I've been picking up .223/5.56 as it comes available here and there, but I am holding off on shooting much or any until supply starts to turn around. Spent an hour at the range today with my 17hmr Savage, forgot how fun and accurate it is, plus every local shop I've been to still has lots of ammo in stock for it.
