Just to start a discussion..................
I used to have a 180 series, that I made the mistake of letting go of. I replaced it with a "new" 185 series. It's a great shooter, but just doesn't have some of the nice detailing of the 180, like:

*no roller on the bolt / action rod arm
*rougher machining overall
*"little pin" boltstop vs. thumb lever bolt stop

Any one else have a 180 and notice the differance? I'm not complaining, just curious.

While I agree the fit & finish is nicer on the 180, and I love the look of the wood handguard, Ruger was not quite done designing the rifle then. Side by side the newer pattern is beefier than the 180. Op rod & return spring in particular, are larger. And the bolt hold open is not exposed to the elements. The shape of the stock is more "square". Overall a great rifle, but not as refined as a 185. The roller bearing is a nice touch though!

My 0.02

Edited to note that 10 round pro mags don't seem to lock up in the 180. Factory mags work great though:cool:
