I have a few questions about mini-14 mags. My buddy found a couple of John Masen 10-rd mags at the local gun shop today and he let me buy one from him. When I got it home I found out it wouldn't fit my new 580. It's approx.
.100" thicker than the factory mag. Also the .223 rounds don't fit right. I am wondering if it is for a mini-30. I have never seen a mini-30 up close so I don't know how thick their mags are. I have heard that the John Masen mags are pretty good, but this is my first one. Has anybody had any expierence with this problem. I would appreciate any input.

It sounds like it might be a mini 30 mag. When I fitted my magwell on my ATI stock I had to widen it for the mag's to fit. I widened it just enough so the mag's are tight. It looked to be about a tenth of an inch of grinding that I did.

Since my stock was made for the .223 I also have a gap that is simply a hole in the stock in front of the mag. Apparently the .223's are just a bit longer.

A bit shorter and a bit thicker would be more likely a 7.62 mag.
