  1. Ruger Mini-14 and Mini-30
Mentioned some of this in my intro post. I found a recent production Mini-14, mint for a bit over $700 at a local gun shop. Has a nice stock with almost a tiger stripe pattern to it, two 5 round and one 10 round Ruger factory magazines, and nice padded leather sling with the Ruger emblem...

I have a 580 series and thinking of getting a Vortex Strikefire 2 red dot. The Strikefire mounts with a single 30mm ring. Would a single Ruger 30mm ring be sturdy enough for the red dot to hold zero? I tried a Warne rail once with a cheap red dot and didn't like the setup. Thanks
  3. Ruger Mini-14 and Mini-30
I've heard/read mini 14's are notorious for stringing shots wants the barrel heats up. I know this is true for older ones, and that newer ones have improved. What's considered a "newer" one? I'm getting a 580 that has a tapered barrel. Is a strut and flash suppressor really needed on this...
  4. Ruger Mini-14 and Mini-30
I recently changed my 580 series synthetic stock Mini 14 out to a Butler Creek Folding stock. The installation went fine --tight fit and smooth no hitch firing. My BCF stock has two screw mounting holes (one on each side) and I fully expected that I was going to have to order a stock...

I cant find the answer to this anywhere.... I have a ruger mini 30 stainless with a 189- serial number made in 1991. I am trying to ascertain the differences between this and the 580/581 minis. If i order a walnut stock i find online, will it fit all minis? What about the vented hand gaurd...

My brother just got a new mini from CDNN. The serial number starts with 580. My neighbor bought a new mini a month befor that with a serial number that starts with 581. Excuse my ignorance, but does the 580 indicate an older model, and if it does what is the difference?:unsure:

are there any design changes between the two series runs? i just got a 580-87XXX tactical model. it has the tapered heavy barrel, flash hider and new type rear adjustable sight. according to the label on the box it was manufactured in october of 2009, if that makes any difference. thanks.
  8. Ruger Mini-14 and Mini-30
I just purchased a mini 14 new and today i finaly had a chance to try it out. I didn't shoot that much, but it failed to fire 2 shots on the last mag. I had pulled the bolt back and locked it before each failure to fire. Each time i pulled the hammer back and gently let the bolt back instead of...

Just can't help myself, got my first Ruger 3 months ago, now I have 4 :D Here are my prettiest babies, from left to right, 561 mini 30, 356 10/22 and a 580 mini 14, also have a 181 mini 14 but that is a work in progress :) All these 3 are stainless with synthetic stocks. Man the bug sure bites...

Hi All, I was wondering what the heaviest grain commercial round people have put through their mini 14. I have a 580 tapered barrel and would like to use some decent sized rounds to give the red deer a hurry up :) I think my mini has a 1:9 twist and so far I have only put 62 and 64 grain...
  12. Ruger Mini-14 and Mini-30
Well guys I am joining the rest of gang and finally picked up a Mini 14 yesterday. The deal was just to good to pass up. :D I did a TrueShot stabilizer, front sight, & flash hider/muzzle brake on my M30. It has served me well so far, but wanted to get other opinions for the M14 LE model. Since...

finally got my 580 set up like i want it & got out to red's range in austin with an old pal (he brought along his bushmaster). i spent quite a bit of time & ammo trying to zero my irons & scope. no prob with the irons, but i am new to scopes and i had some troubles getting my scope right on...
  14. Ruger Mini-14 and Mini-30
Here is my Ranch Rifle. I just finished the home made strut using the UTG clamps and made the strut out of 304 stainless rod that was media blasted to better match the Mini's barrel finish. It has the Ameca Arms Scout rail and is wearing a NcStar 2X7 scout scope. It was one of the early Ranch...

I have a threaded compensator on a 580 series. The unit came with a jam nut to keep it tight. It had been tight for several trips to the range, but last time out, the compensator started to rotate while I was unaware of why my groups were all over the place. I didn't notice it was loose till I...

Just-for-the-fun-of-it question. I don't claim to be the expert here, in fact, I'm a Mini novice, but I recently acquired a 183 series Mini and I have to tell you the finish and stamping/roll marking of the older rifle receiver is noticeably better than my Tactical. I sure like the older rear...
  17. Ruger Mini-14 and Mini-30
I bought a 580 Series Mini-14 thinking I could shoot Silver Bear .223 ammo out of it. I does shoot it rather well but I have since learned that Ruger says I shouldn't use the stuff. So..........I am too cheap to buy brass ammo for breaking clay pigeons. Should I sell the Mini and buy a rifle...
  18. Ruger Mini-14 and Mini-30
Finally got my 580 series just the way I like it. I've lost count on the number of coyotes she's taken. Bone stock, it'll post 2" MOA with Remington UMC 55g FMJ. The big boy is a 1954 HRA. Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us
