I have always loved the AR platform, and within the last 12 months purchased my first AR15. I have no complaints. It functions as one would expect and I've had no issues with it. Recently, however, I have been very interested in hog hunting, and hunting in general. While I know there are rounds...
I recently started reloading for 223. I am using FC brass and Hodgdon H4895 powder. Hodgdon lists the starting load at 25grns and max at 26grns. When I load the case with 25grns there is very little room in the case. I have measured out multiple times with a scale to make sure.
I am new and am gearing up to reload. I already own a Mini-14 and have a Lee press and 223 dies, etc... I will be acquiring an M1 Garand in the near future.
I wanted to know if there are any powders that can be used in both cartridges (30-06 and 223/556) to good effect? Or is this an...
Obviously there are things you can do to improve a Mini's accuracy, like adding a strut, adding a stiffer top barrel brace/cover, new barrel, bedding, etc.
1. But can the AK 47/74 be made more accurate through these or other methods?
2. Is the standard Mini/Ranch as or more accurate than a...
From this page, which rifle and why?
AR15-M16 Rifles-D S Arms
Please, lets keep the cost at around $1,000 or less.
The rifles I am looking at are the:
I would like something with a flattop.
My other options are a S&W M&P, or maybe even a Spikes.
If you know of...
Scottsdale Gun Club touts the LMT as very reliable, but it sells for $ 1249. Aim.com sells the Spikes Tactical for $ 770. I'd like to buy from a bricks and mortar dealer so I can get quick service on any issues, but the price difference is an issue.
In an earlier post I wrote about the fact I could not get my brand new Mini-14 to zero on the iron sights. Even with the rear sight peep drifted all the way to the right, it still shot a bit to the left of the bull. I packed it up and sent it back to Ruger on their dime. That was two weeks ago...
I would like some suggestions on what is the best AR-15 in the sub-$1,000 price range.
Some of the rifles I have looked at are:
Chamber must be 5.56mm
Flat top would be nice
16 inch barrel
Lifetime warranty would be nice
Rifle is going to be...
Guys and gals this is a little article I threw together, and I would like your opinion on it.
This article is some of my opinions on the AK-47, AR-15 and the FN/FAL rifles.
Lets start from the very beginning:
Inserting a magazine
AK-47 uses a cam style magazine, where the magazine has to be...
Stunned by .233 to 5.56….
I see a lot of postings about the difference in dimensions and pressures for .223 and 5.56 but not about
how different they shoot…….read on…..
I shot about 80 rounds of PMC 55gr FMJ .223 at 100 yards with a 4X scope and a bi-pod and sand bags.
Pattern was within...
Okay, I have owned 5 mini's over the past years, the last three were Ranch Rifles, two of which were 580 series. I really like the mini...which is why I've owned so many. I hate the lack of accuracy...which is why I have dis-owned so many. I saw when Ruger came out with a Target model with...
I have 181 series that I had ASI cut down the barrel and install a muzzle brake. It is now the minimum legal length. I also got some new gas bushings which I started with the smallest size that was .040. The action would not cycle so I installed the largest (.050). It helped but failed to...
Take a look at Ruger's latest piston offering dubbed the SR-556CLA. The "C" is for carbine and the "LA" is for light adaptive rail.
This one's very similar to the SR-556C with the differences being the forend itself and the way the forend is attached to the barrel. The CLA uses two large...
I've been shooting my SR556C rather regularly in the year or so I've owned it and just reached the 5,000 round mark. Most of this has been on semi- but I have fired several hundred rounds of this on a select fire lower. In all this time, the gun has been accurate and reliable with the only...
He's no threat to you after taking a 223 hit to the chest at such a distance. he was almost certainly no threat to you before you shot him, you see, so the additional debilitation of the 223 guarantees that he can't hit you back at such a distance, nor can he run 1/2 mile and maybe get good...
Youtube and the net in general have been scrubbed on all info about the lethality of the 5.56.
The massive cavitation the 5.56 causes and the hyperstatic shock and tissue damage the 5.56 causes on the cellular level.
Seems big brother does not want the people to be well armed at all, and...
I have been lurking and posting on the Mini-14 forum for a little over two years. I have learned a lot and have always found this forum to be most helpful.
Today I traded my Mini-14 Tactical for a S&W M&P15 PS. The PS is Smith's piston AR, so I am staying with the same operating system. I...
