I just purchased this Chinese SKS that is marked "Made in China by Norinco Poly USA Atl Ga. It has no Chinese markings but has the pyramid symbol beside the serial number. Can anyone give me some info on this weapon's origin, build date, etc? The serial number appears to be 8-1515XXXL. All help appreciated.

From what I have gathered on another forum, it is 0306, although you have to use your imagination to see those numbers.

Other than the /26\, no dating system has been perfected for Chinese SKS's, but, from what i can tell, that looks like a 1971.

The original owner says that he purchased the rifle new several years ago and that he thought it had a bayonet on it. They sold for about $89.95 back then he said and that he and his son's purchased several of them along with the $195.00 AK47's that were available in the same department store. He thinks his son removed the bayonets from the SKS's because he didn't like looks of them.
How can I be sure if it's legal to replace the bayonet on this particular model? He doesn't remember what year(or decade for that matter) that he purchased this particular rifle.

On the other side of the coin, it is nearly impossible to prove whether it is illegal or not to have a bayo on a Chinese SKS
