New to me Mini

I bought a 188 series Mini today and must admit my lack of Mini 14 knowledge. I also bought 400 rounds of Brown Bear ammo. I'm in the process of cleaning and getting familiar with the new to me gun and hope to be shooting in a week or so. Barrel looks good and the action seems tight. Glad to find this source of information

Where are you located? Chances are there are other Mini shooters in your area that will be happy to share their expertise. That's yet another reason why these rifles are such a good choice for experienced and newer shooters as well.

Fun factor on a 1-10 scale always rates at least a 12!

I'm in northern Nevada. I read that this rifle may break a firing pin using Berdan primed ammo. Can you shed any light on this? Why is it the rifle must be sent back to Ruger for the replacement?

I don't know about Berdan-primed cases breaking firing pins, but if for any reason a firing pin is broken, Ruger has to supposedly "fit" it... it's not a drop-in replacement.

Ruger restricts sale some fire control components. Try getting a hammer for one of their revolvers. No real fitting required.

For the new Mini owners, who have not discovered this on YouTube, and also own or are curious about the 30:

A guy in CA demonstrates his Mini 30 and several other rifles, such as his SKS, LE #4, M-1 Garand, K-31 etc.
Just type in "Mini 30 420 yards". In addition to the nice range videos he provides contrasts of muzzle energy at the barrel and at the target.
