If he'd just kept a handgun loaded and ready, in a manner secured from the kids, he'd have been able to shoot at least 2 of the pos's and that would almost certainly have run off the other 2. They had handguns, by the way. Power in a gun means NOTHING if you can't bring it "into play" fast enough.

My dad kept a loaded shotgun next to his bed my hole childhood. I never touched it because I was taught not to touch things that werent mine and that I was only allowed to touch a firearm when an adult was around.

This is a bad happening when someone is just shot in their home , and for what ?

I got a shotgun and pistol , prefer the scattergun to anything else !

Question:
You have a 12ga. Mossberg 500 secured in a Shotlock hanging on the wall just inside your bedroom closet. Trigger is completely blocked off and secured by the Shotlock and the tube is fully loaded with shells. Do you keep a round in the chamber ready to fire with the safety on, or do you keep the chamber empty with the safety off?
Leaving the firing pin cocked continuously, good or bad idea.
