Just curious as to what you all carry in your 9mm's for defense loads. The reason I ask is because I was just SHOCKED today as I picked up my Remington 124gr +P Golden Sabers! They went from $24.99 to $33.99 for a box of 25 in less than a month
I have used and trusted these rounds for many years but WOW! Remington is crazy with that price increase
I can get the Winchester 124gr +P PDX1 for $19.99 a box of 20 and the Federal and Gold Dot 124 +P's seem to be the same as the Winchester....
Now if any of you can put me in the Winchester Ranger 127 +P+ T or SXT we need to talk
I have used this in two Brownings, one Belgian, one assy. in Portugal. a Taurus PT 99AF (Beretta 92 clone) and a stainless XD subcompact and had good results with all. Won't impress anyone with the name but at 259. per 1000 we can practice and carry the same round and it worked in all four guns. 9mm 115 gr. JHP New
I carry the PDX1 Winchester ammo and have had no issues out of my carry XD9sc. I have been looking at the Winchester Ranger bonded JHP ammo also for further savings.
Everything I've heard says that there is a incoming price increase on all forms of ammunition.
Wow, no s***? I carry Golden Sabers in my G19 and last time I bought them I paid $23.99. Haven't seen SXT for quite a while-luckily I'm stocked up on them in .380

124 gr Gold Dots, because they're reliable in my guns, are readily available at a reasonably cheap price, and have impressed me with their consistent performance in actual people.
Whether GS, SXT, HST, GD, PDX, etc.; with similar weight bullets, all of the standard, well-known stuff works pretty much the same in people. Even the off-brands are very little different from premium brands when it comes to the actual wound.
If it's reliable in your gun, I'd go for whichever ammo I liked best (for whatever reason), and not worry about it.
I don't carry 9mm guns often, but when I do, I use Winchester Ranger Bonded 147gr or Federal HST Tactical +P 135gr. My Sig Sauer P226R likes these load better than lighter ones. My Robar XD(m) on the other hand likes 124gr ammo more than the heavier loads. Different handguns will like different types of ammunition and weight. Test and see which works best in your specific handgun. Anything from the Ranger, HST or Gold Dot line ought to work well, if you do your job and hit the target.

I always carried 115 gr. JHP, from various manufacturers, but primarily Remington. I have always preferred the lighter JHP's because I heard of expansion problems with the heavier slugs.

Brass prices are headed up. But nearly a $10 jump?!

I've seen enough 9mm jhp tests on YouTube, and their depressing results, that I am considering, "going full ball", but with a slight twist. I have been looking at Winchester 147 grain truncated cone TMJ's. That bullet design cannot be characterized as any kind of hollow point. And like semiwadcutters, the truncated design should work a little better, than a standard round nose bullet. They are 'standard pressure rounds'. I can buy 50 of them, cheaper than 20/25 of any hollow point.
Sure, they fly at 990 fps, but being 'heavy' for the caliber, I'll take the penetration. After visiting the 'fed pen' in Oakdale, (where that former governor should have stayed), and seeing the crowd in 'da weight room', the NFL players are lightweights!
My choices when I sometimes do carry a 9mm are a bonded HP rnd to prevent jacket seperation, not too light nor too heavy like the 124 +P or there about. Design or maker? Ha, Ha well I don't know honestly. I haven't read a box of JHP ammo that's guaranteed to flower yet but some have better marketing, names and packaging. Lately I've been carrying the Winchester PDX1 124 +P bonded HP, who knows 6 months from now what'll be Probably Gold Dot or HST.
It's difficult to choose a rnd with these denim covered paper and water filled jug tests! Wet phone books? The gel test isn't any better... No bone, muscle, 5 layers of skin, fat, tendon, fluid and clothing- how does "ballistic gel" represent human tissue as we're different multiple layers and gel is 1 constant layer?
As mentioned by SFsc616171 these so called tests often show the hp plugging up and not expanding or the very opposite, kinda luck of the draw. Pick a rnd that you're accurate with and functions well in your weapon.
I run Cor Bon 115 or 124. I just bought some 124 Black Hills that ran well in a Glock 19. Paid around 33.00 a box of 50, so it's under the dreaded 1.00 per round
CorBon 100gr PowRBall, but after the initial testing for reliability, I don't shoot it. I practice with my cast bullet reloads. I shoot way too much to be paying anything like factory prices. That's crazy. I shoot for 10c a rd, or less, depending upon bulk prices and what I have to give for lead. you are many times more likely to not get any expansion than you are to "separate a jacket" or have underpenetration. Animal tests prove this. Most jhp's don't expand in flesh, even the 115 gr plus p's. 147 grainers have no chance at all. What happens in water or jello is irrelevant.
i have seen golden saber for 14$ a box on a few sites.cdnn and centerfiresystems and some others for well under 20$.they are also repackaging them into remington HD boxs and giving 25 rounds, just picked some up in .45 at duhnams for 25$.same as golden saber in a new box.might be why there is good prices on saber,to get rid of the old stock for the new box.
i guess im an old goat,i like hydra shok 147.going to get some HST someday.winchester ranger(newest black talon stuff)looks good to.
seen some +p+ made by underwood.slings a 115 gold dot HP bullet @ 1400+ fps.

Don't know what to tell you, I shoot sales barn 115 gr FMJ for practice because the price is right but carry 147 gr for serious because its the most accurate in my Ruger P94. Just have to bite the bullet so to speak and get what you want or step back and go cheap, your choice.
