i bought the aimpoint pro, happy with that one ... its newer than the M3, uses an odd 1/3rd battery that will last for about 3 years of continous use, and i dont know if its as rugged built as the M3, but its much cheaper. I think its a higher value optic than the M3 for what you get.
The internal electronics in the M3 is probably even more rugged built than the pro, but if you want the ultimate in optics and are willing to spend that much money on it, i think i'd save up for a compM4 that takes AA batteries while you are at it. AA batteries should be common and found everywhere, if theres an issue with an aimpoint, it would likely be the difficulty finding batteries for it (if you think of it as a prepper, which probably is why you are willing to spend all that money on an optic).
