Stuff breaks sometimes. I had a tac light that worked great for 6 months then it started shutting off when I fired. Turned out that the spring that holds the battery in place had weakened or came loose and was allowing the battery to shift under recoil breaking the connection between the battery and the light and shutting off the light. There wasn't much I could do about it but cuss out loud about buying cheap.. Not saying that you bought cheap but just using my story as an example.
In all likelihood they will make you RMA it through the manufacturer.
I think I'm done with the electronic doodads...not that I've had many. But I did have an Eotech with the AA batteries. I had it for about six years, it still worked but I decided to change batteries. Came back to that rifle a couple months later only to find crap had oozed all over the thing. It even ate up the plastic housing inside which held the batteries. Not a happy camper.
Can't blame the EOTECH for that one Risasi. Sounds like you batteries leaked some acid. What kind of batteries did you have in it? This is the reason that the armory here at work insists that all optics and other battery powered devices have the batteries removed prior to turn-in. I don't know how many PVS-14's I have seen ruined by battery leakage. I know that can't be helped with a SD carbine as it needs batteries in it at all times. I would suggest still using an optic like an Eotech but checking the batteries every week when you do your weekly wipe-down and functions check.
JRedHorse,
I don't really have a bone to pick with Taurus. I have been nothing but happy with the model 85 that I used to have. A lot of my buddies here at work have Tarus weapons as well and I have heard about ZERO breakages with them. Everything bad that I have heard about them has been on the internet.. Go figure...
I'm not knocking Eotech. I loved that thing. For the longest time I had it on my Beowulf, perfect for popping bowling pins at 100 yards. But I could just as easily had done that with irons or a low power scope. And now I'm out the $300-400 I paid for it. That buys a lot of scope nowadays (big fan of the Vortex line here). That's all I'm saying, I don't want to have to worry about the rarely finicky reliability of electronics.
Anyway, mine was the 552 and the original set of batteries I used were Duracell's. I had originally got it on a buy with another buddy and a bunch of cops I knew. We did a group buy from Rainier years ago. I just went with what he recommended. But this last batch I used the Energizers recommended by Eotech.
