I'm not an expert either but, I am planning on mounting a Burris Scout scope on my Mini. It's 2.75X.
(I try-ed it on a Scout rifle and I like it).
I do not see why a Red Dot won't work the same.
And Yes, it can help in placing the bullet on your target better even at 50 yards.
Again: I am not an expert nor do I play one on TV...
Nor I, and never had a good magnified dot. Had a Tru Glo 2x and couldn't get next to it at all. Mostly because of no focus ring, it was like looking through a fish bowl to me.
