I have recently acquired a new Masterpiece Arms MPA30 9mm pistol, if you know these guns or MAC-10s in general you will probably agree that the "iron sights" are not very user friendly. Basically its a triangle with a hole in it for the rear sight and a typical three post up front. Luckily the MPA30 has the cocking handle on the side of the receiver instead of on the top and it came with a factory installed picatinny rail ontop of the receiver.
I've looked at a variety of red dot sights. I am hoping to get something fairly small as the MPA30 is a fairly heavy weapon out of the box.
So far I was leaning towards the Burris fast fire 2 or the Bushnell Holosight. I have heard good things and bad things about both. Are there any other small reliable red dot sights out there I should consider?
I know Eotech and Aimpoint make some of the best red dot systems out there but those sights are more expensive than the weapon itself.
Another one I came across recently was a Bushnell Trophy TRS-25. Its only about 2.4 inches long and weighs in at less than 5 ounces. I have a Bushnell Trophy 1x32mm red/green dot sight on my rifle and like it.
Has any one handled one of these? Or the Burris Fast Fire 2?
I just bought a millett zoom dot from ebay for $200, brand new from someone who didn't want it anymore. Great sight, was designed to replace aimpoints as the army sight. you can change the dot size from 1 to 10 moa via the big dial and it has an auto adjusting brightness so you don't have to worry about adjusting brightness and it's plenty bright it doesn't wash out, is parallax free. Bushnell now owns the millet line but it's the same sight. waterproof submersible to 300', -50 degrees to 150 degrees, 1000 to 10000 hour battery life. When you close the lens caps it goes into sleep mode. Parallax free. Type 3 hardcoat anodizing, shock tested on .500 smith and ran over by a truck.
You can get the bushnell zoom dot for between 200-300 bucks brand new, and it includes a high ring for an AR flattop style rifle.
it's very small, smaller than an aimpoint. It has field replaceable electronics so if it breaks you can just pop the electronics out by hand and pop a new electronic package in and your good to go.
I just order a GG&G standard aimpoint ring for it since it has a spare battery compartment which i find nice and it's pretty low since this is going on a .45-70 lever gun.
I was gonna go with an aimpoint comp m3 with a 2moa dot but I liked this because it has comparable quality and you can adjust the dot size from 1 to 10 moa which is nice if you want to take shots out to 200 yards. With a regular 4 moa aimpoint thats not possible because at 200 yards the dot will be 8 inches, burris fast fire the same thing
It's Standard 30mm dot sight uses 30mm ring, also comes with nice solid rubber lens caps. I like it.
Good luck with whatever sight you end up choosing. Christ be with you.
