I am in a dilema, I found iron sights for my flattop (took ALOT of searching for that) but am considering adding a red dot instead. The question I have is which one could withstand a massive about of abuse ie rifle strapped to a pack frame that is dropped with the rifle on the bottom side. This happens quite frequently on breaks and the pack and rifle have actually gone off a 15' cliff. I know a normal scope won't stand this (don't ask) but how about the red dot or hologram style? or should I just slap the iron sights on and call it good?
Sounds like you need either an Aimpoint or an EoTech. Both are very rugged and loved by our military because of it. In these types of sights, there's lots of Chinese made knock offs or other brands, but in the end, you get what you pay for. Since you have a habbit of dropping things from serious heights, you should look at the two mentioned above. I favor EoTech, but I also have an Aimpoint. Both are very good.
Go to Primary Arms and check out their Aimpoint clones. There are a lot of positive feedbacks from members of AR 15.com. I bought a M3 clone and installed it on a SR-22. Good quality and holds zero well. Get the high mount to co-wittness with your new irons............Joe
I agree, sounds like you need an Aimpoint or EoTech. I personally prefer and use the Aimpoint, but work with plenty of guys who use the EoTech. Check out the Comp M4 or Comp M4(s) if you can swing the $$. Comes with a built in QD mount, a removable riser to set it up for co-witnessing, flash kill grill on front, and best of all... Runs off of a single AA battery for something like 80,000 hours. Its available in a 2- or 4-MOA dot. Been running mine for a little over a year now without a single glitch, and its been dropped, slammed in car doors, banged on door frames, and fallen on without losing its zero.
Had the best prices I could find, shipped quickly, no hassles. Good luck with your search.
