I ordered a new Blackhawk .44 with a 7.5" barrel from BassPro and will be picking it up this week (after my 7-10 day wait here in the Democratic Peoples Republic of Maryland). I'm taking it over to a gunsmith after I pick it up to get it setup for a scope mounting. I'll be using this on the Eastern Shore of MD where my longest shot will be 150yds from my tree stand.
Any recommendations on what type of scope to go with? Crosshair or dot?
My only experience with a handgun scope was on a Beretaa NEOS .22, it was a Bushnell red dot I believe. I think that with short, 50 yard or so ranges a red dot is good, but for the longer shots beyond that I would definetely get something more precise.
I was thinking about a red dot since I'm used to my pins on my bow, but I only shoot my bow out to 35 yards. Maybe the crosshair would be better for long range. I'm heading to the gun shop tomorrow to get it setup for scope rings, then I'll start looking at scopes.
